Tabi Port; The beginning of a grand adventure...

Tabi Port has obviously modernised recently. Small cottages and equally-small shops are dwarfed by the new constructions; the Tabi Hotel, and the nearby Pokemon Centre.

Occupying what clearly is usually the village green is a large marquee, a large banner attached to the top reading 'Honi's First League Trainers, departing at 10am!' A big, bulky man stands outside the entrance to the marquee, checking IDs and only permitting the prospective trainers in; kids of various ages are emerging from the hotel at irregular intervals and being allowed in, often watched by tearful friends and family.

The mood is overall quite festive, with all manner of souvenirs being hawked by the entrepenurial villagers. It is now 9:50, and the last boat expected to arrive has just pulled into the docks, bringing with it the last few soon-to-be Trainers, who are now disembarking onto dry land.

You are all amongst these Trainers. What do you do now?

"At the moment, it's not much of a leg up in a fight yet. Though sometimes I get a sense for where there's an item lying on the ground. But unless I see something ahead of time it's not really much use in a fight. I'd have to get a lot better at the fine control for that - that's what I meant about getting better with practice."

She cocks her head thoughtfully. "It's not really like being psychic the same way someone like Sabrina is. You know Sabrina, right, that Kanto gym leader? It's sort of... I don't really know how to describe it, but it's not the same thing. And I don't think I get any sort of weird feeling around other clairvoyants - Olympia's supposed to be one, and I've never -"

She cuts herself off when the group led by the boastful boy finally turns up. Her eyes narrow when they meet his - they're a very dark purple, clearly not exactly natural, and she vaguely hopes it weirds him out. "What, did you think just because you're all talk, everyone is? I've got news for you, andouille, I don't run away." She's more or less assigned that as his nickname in her head - even if he ever actually tells her his name she probably won't bother to remember it.

Another whistle, and she holds out her arm for Chouette to hop up onto again. "I hope you're ready to go down in flames."

"I hope you're ready to go down in flames."

Isabella's words inspired Jeremy, he could feel the rush of adrenaline that came from confrontation surging through him again. He stopped petting his Houndour and spoke to it. "Sounds like your cue, man."

On a rare whim of showmanship, Jeremy turned to look the boastful boy dead in the eye, and snapped his fingers.

Abbey resists the urge to mirror her Pokemon and hide behind one of her groupmates with a little more courage, but manages to quash it before it gets much past weakness in the knees. She was going to have to battle eventually, both normal trainers and gym leaders, so she couldn't get cold feet now. This doesn't prevent her from averting her eyes from the other boy's reproachful gaze.

Maybe one of his other group members would be more interested in observing than battling too? The boy absorbed in looking at the Pokedex looks like he might match well with her sensibilities. Maybe she could approach him once they settle on battle terms. Best just to see how things work out going forward. For now Abbey simply keeps quiet and rubs Rana's head (though whether the gesture is to calm Rana's nerves or her own is questionable).

Sibyl likewise looks up at that boy and his posse as Isabella cuts off what she was talking about before.

She coolly looks at everyone on the opposing side, before saying, “I think we’ve made our point. I hope you’re not too intimidated; it’d be a shame to not have a proper battle if you're all running scared.”

Ellis plays his part perfectly, letting out a little stream of fire that soars over everyone's heads. The frizzy-haired girl gives a little cheer and applauds, much to the obvious disdain of the boastful boy. "Oh my gosh that was soo cool!"

Doing his best to ignore that, the boastful boy looks back at Isabella. "I take it from that ludicrous decoration on your owl you intend on challenging the contest circuit? Excellent. Twice as many opportunities to humiliate you."

There is a quiet cough behind him, as an older man, dressed in a smart grey suit, approaches and proffers a briefcase he's holding towards the boy. "Master Stanton? Your Pokemon, as requested."

The boastful boy - Stanton, apparently - smirks and holds up one finger. "Hold that thought," he instructs the world in general before turning around and opening the briefcase, retrieving an Ultra Ball from within and clicking it into place on his belt alongside the Pokeball that already sits there. "Thank you...John...Joe...whatever your name is," he waves his hand airily, "that'll be all for now."

"James, sir," the man replies somewhat reproachfully.

"As I was saying," he continues, turning back to the four of you, "As I was saying, shall we get started? Am I to assume that the rest of you are following your companion in this foolishness? Hmm...four of you...let's make things a little more interesting." He turns back to shout after the older man, who had just about turned around to leave. "Oi, John! You can adjudicate this battle for us. And...let's say...I'll give you lot 4000 Pyen if you win. Obviously, I don't expect people like you to have the resources to match that bet, so if I win I suppose I'll just have to be satisfied with victory." He gives another irritating smirk.

The frizzy-haired girl rather ruins the moment by giving another excited clap. "A battle already! This is going to be soo much fun!"

"Ludicrous? Obviously those lessons you keep going on about didn't include fashion sense." Says the girl wearing pink and purple striped socks.

She is a little gratified to see that the frizzy-haired girl is just plain easily excitable, and doesn't seem to be really fixated on Stanton particularly. She has to admit that that was a really cool move; she'll have to see if she can talk Jeremy into going on the contest circuit, too. She flashes a grin over her shoulder at him and mouths "Nice one."

Turning back to Stanton - and hoping being ignored for a moment irritates him - she squares her shoulders. "Anyway, you've got no room to talk about ludicrous. I'm not the one who brought my butler with me." She doesn't have a butler, but that's beside the point. "It's a shame to take your money, but if you're offering I'm sure not gonna say no. Ready when you are, fancy pants."

Seeing Isabella's approving face, Jeremy flashes a casual thumbs up. Now that the moment has passed he feels a little embarrassed about being so theatrical, but he also has to admit that yeah, it was pretty cool. He gives Ellis a quick head ruffle as he stands up and takes a couple of slow steps forward to join Isabella at her side, looking between the other three members of Stanton's group.

"What about you guys? You want to make this four on four? I mean, I'm happy to beat just this guy; if for no other reason than he's trying to cheat us here," he gestures at the ultra ball on Stanton's belt, "and I understand if you don't want to defend his stuck-up ass while we whoop it. But if you want to make this competition a little bit more sportsmanlike, then I'm down."

Abbey is similarly impressed with the pyrotechnic display, though her only outward reaction is a widening of her eyes behind her glasses. Eyes that also blink as she notices the man behind the boy; his butler? They have a few maids at her parents' house, but she had managed to learn all their names and treat them like, well, people, so the flippant attitude of the boy now starts to irk her a little bit too.

...Wait, Stanton? She's heard that name before. Maybe dropped by one of her parents or their associates. A child of big business in Hoenn, his background was even more like hers than she originally thought. But that just made the blatant display of money and influence more annoying to her. Enough to dispell the anxieties toward battling at least. And if that Ultra Ball held something more threatening than their starter Pokemon, as seem to be implied, Isabella would probably need all the help she could get. Abbey isn't about to let her groupmates down right out of the gate.

She stands and steps up beside the others as well, though still a bit timidly and without the verbal bravado of her companions.

Sibyl looks back at Jeremy and winks approvingly at him after the pyrotechnic display. She then rolls her eyes at the annoying display of upper-class snobbery coming from the boy opposite: seriously? Butlers and all? At least it would make the coming battle more satisfying. She steps forward, letting go of Miriam, keeping her head down and making as creepy a smile as possible. If everyone's being theatrical, why not her?

She speaks in an even tone, "Douglas Stanton I presume? This will be interesting." She recalls the big-business family Stanton and their kids Douglas and Cara from some boring Fortune 500-esqe magazine article. It's amazing what random stuff people remember.

She speaks more quietly to rest of the group, "Alright, let's wipe the smirk off his face. Might as well take his generous offer."

When Jeremy mentions trying to cheat them, a connection fires in Isabella's brain that she'd been too busy displaying her contempt to make. She really has no excuse, considering she's spent the past day fuming about the rule he's flouting, herself. It would've been nice to have a familiar Pokémon with her in the new region, but nooo... And now the idiot is just sitting here breaking it like there aren't seven people standing right here.

"Good point, Jeremy. If we were going to be doing that, I'd've brought Totem with me. Does the Professor know you have your friend there?"

She hears Sybil call him out for who he is, but she can't actually say she really cares. If she remembers the name she doesn't plan on ever using it, anyway.
