Tabi Port; The beginning of a grand adventure...

Tabi Port has obviously modernised recently. Small cottages and equally-small shops are dwarfed by the new constructions; the Tabi Hotel, and the nearby Pokemon Centre.

Occupying what clearly is usually the village green is a large marquee, a large banner attached to the top reading 'Honi's First League Trainers, departing at 10am!' A big, bulky man stands outside the entrance to the marquee, checking IDs and only permitting the prospective trainers in; kids of various ages are emerging from the hotel at irregular intervals and being allowed in, often watched by tearful friends and family.

The mood is overall quite festive, with all manner of souvenirs being hawked by the entrepenurial villagers. It is now 9:50, and the last boat expected to arrive has just pulled into the docks, bringing with it the last few soon-to-be Trainers, who are now disembarking onto dry land.

You are all amongst these Trainers. What do you do now?

"My visions. I'm clairvoyant." She says this much the same way someone might say "I'm good at math", while in the middle of crouching down to get closer to face-to-face with Chouette. "It's pretty cool, but it doesn't always work the way I want it to. And by the way, anybody who calls me 'Isabella the Fortune Teller' is getting their butt kicked."

She looks up as the next group wanders out of the tent, but since her challenger isn't among them, she goes back to what she was doing, which is fishing in her pockets. She finds an elegant pair of glasses and perches them on Chouette's beak. "There, don't you look clever? We are going to kill them at the first contest." Assuming it's a Smart Contest, anyway, but that's the kind Isabella's best at.

She grins up at Jeremy... and up... and up. Even when she stands up he's got a good head of height on her. Definitely not someone she's going to object to having on her side, even if this is just a Pokémon battle. "Excellent. Let's show that andouille who's boss."

Sibyl smiles back at Miriam, before looking briefly over at the arguing Trainers and deciding not to pay them any mind right now. She then hears Isabella mention she’s clairvoyant, causing her to stop and turn around to face her, Miriam still in her hands, with a look of curiosity on her face. “Really? I’ve heard about clairvoyance before, never seen it though. You always been able to do it?”

“What’s wrong with ‘Fortune Teller’? I mean, I wouldn’t mind something like ‘the Hexer’ myself,” Sibyl asks. “Well, I suppose it DOES make you sound like some sort of charlatan.”

“And of course we’ll back you up for the battle.”

Ellis gives a friendly little snuffle at Jeremy, apparently enjoying the petting. Chouette, meanwhile, seems rather confused by the glasses and goes a bit cross-eyed trying to look at them, but eventually seems to grow accustomed to the accessory.

Isabella rolls her eyes when Sybil doesn't see the problem. At least it helps her keep from giggling out loud at the little Hoothoot's reaction to the glasses. "It rhymes. Sort of. So everybody's been calling me that basically since they figured out I could do it. But yeah, I've done it as long as I can remember. And I mean, it's like anything, you get better at it the more you do it."

She smiles as she warms to her subject. "Used to be I pretty much just knew where things were without looking, kinda like dowsing. But if I concentrate I can actually see the future, a little bit; it works best with augury, watching flying Pokémon. I can do object reading, too. I still want to get better, though - you wouldn't believe what some clairvoyants can do. I've read about people who can walk through a fight and never get nicked once, just because they know where everybody's going to be before they do." She's read a lot about this; it's basically the only way she knows what to call augury.

"Oh wow! That's amazing! I've read about psychic abilities, but I never thought I'd actually meet someone who actually has them!" Abbey exclaims, listening intently to Isabella's explanation. She wonders how that works; she's seen, and drawn, many scenes of bird Pokemon in flight, but never seen anything beyond their natural instincts at work.

As she's trying to think of a question the clairvoyant won't find offensive, she barely notices the other group leaving the tent but for Rana's reaction. She frowns slightly and thanks Arceus that her group has been able to get along so far.

Similarly, it seems the rest of the group is more gung-ho about the prospect of battling. Maybe she won't have to participate in this first round after all.

Getting back to her original line of thought, she asks, "Um, if you don't mind my asking, what are your visions like? Are the just, um, images in your head or... something more like a dream?" It was always easier to understand something if you could equate it to something you had actually experienced yourself.

Sibyl mouths the words 'Isabella' and 'Fortune Teller' to herself, in an attempt to find the rhyme, "Yeah... I suppose at a stretch."

As Isabella then launches into her descriptions of clairvoyants and their powers, Sibyl listens intently to the stories, remarking afterward, "Wow. Well, the world is just full of interesting things..."

Isabella frowns a little - Abbey's just asked an actually difficult question. "Sometimes it's like a picture - I do dream them occasionally, actually - but a lot of the time I just... know something suddenly. Did you ever just realize something out of the blue, when you were doing something else? Like you were watching a movie, and you got up to get a snack and suddenly something made sense? It's kind of like that. I can see a hidden meaning in things."

Jeremy shifts from his haunches to sitting on the ground, legs crossed. He continues to pet Ellis but looks up at Isabella as he speaks. "So what does that mean for us? I mean like, is that gonna give us a leg up as a team, like in battle and that?"

He looks over his shoulder in the direction of the group that just left. "And what about the other teams? Do any of them got any other...uhh..." Jeremy tried to remember the word Isabella just used for herself. "'Clevonts' on their teams? Can you guys like, uh, detect each other in a crowd or anything like that?"

"So it's like... an extrasensory... intuition," Abbey ponders. She's heard such abilities also referred to as ESP (extrasensory perception), but the way Isabella describes it makes it sound more like it comes from within than without, so "intuition" makes more sense to her. "That's really neat! Probably better than zoning out to see visions and stuff anyway..."

"'Clairvoyant,'" Abbey corrects Jeremy gently, before continuing. "And I'm curious about that too: whether you can tell if other people have psychic abilities or not." She has a feeling that psychic abilities, like Pokémon, studying, or anything else, probably has branches or separate areas of expertise. If she remembers correctly, there are people that can move things with their minds; tele... kinetics, maybe? That sounds very different from what Isabella can do. Detecting others, if it can be done at all, might not be in her repertoire. "Oh, oh! And how does it work with Psychic Pokémon, like Rana here?" she asks, indicating the shy Pokémon at her side.

Another group of Trainers emerge, though these ones look around a little furtively and promptly split up, one heading to the Pokemon centre, one heading to the hotel and two heading back in the direction of the docks for some odd reason.

It's only a couple of minutes after this when the group containing the boastful boy emerges. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it seems that he's already taken charge of this group, and is once again regaling them with tales of how he's had personal training from Juan, though he stops when he sees Isabella. "You actually stuck around. I'll be honest, I'm a little surprised." He glances around to the other three of you and your Pokemon with something of a disdainful gaze - Rana once again does her best to huddle behind Abbey's legs, while Ellis lets out a very quiet growl.

The rest of his group consists of a younger boy with slicked-back brown hair, who appears to have brought an enormous rucksack with him and who is still playing with the Pokedex he was given, a tall and very thin girl who looks rather as though she's turned up in her dressing gown, and a girl with long frizzy brown hair who, more than the others, seems to be hanging on the boastful boy's every word.
