Tabi Port; The beginning of a grand adventure...

Tabi Port has obviously modernised recently. Small cottages and equally-small shops are dwarfed by the new constructions; the Tabi Hotel, and the nearby Pokemon Centre.

Occupying what clearly is usually the village green is a large marquee, a large banner attached to the top reading 'Honi's First League Trainers, departing at 10am!' A big, bulky man stands outside the entrance to the marquee, checking IDs and only permitting the prospective trainers in; kids of various ages are emerging from the hotel at irregular intervals and being allowed in, often watched by tearful friends and family.

The mood is overall quite festive, with all manner of souvenirs being hawked by the entrepenurial villagers. It is now 9:50, and the last boat expected to arrive has just pulled into the docks, bringing with it the last few soon-to-be Trainers, who are now disembarking onto dry land.

You are all amongst these Trainers. What do you do now?

The shuffling Abra apparently presents a difficult target for Miriam, who almost plows into the ground besides the psychic-type before recovering herself.

This is looking bad; very bad. While dazzling to her eyes, the new Pokémon's attack had been deadly. Not knowing its capabilities already makes her nervous, but seeing that first hand makes her doubly so. She glances down at Rana with concern and then over to Sibyl's Pokémon: Miriam. Though the Litwick's parting curse had finally been lifted, the Ghost Pokémon was hanging on by a thread. That was probably why that last attack had failed.

Next she glances at the two remaining opponents. The hale and healthy Flabebe and the Abra that was both powerful and seemingly impervious to her own attacks. Miriam won't last. Then it'll be just them and Rana. The thought sends a shiver down her spine.

"I-I..." she stammers, glancing between Sibyl and Rana as a cold panic clenches her stomach. Squeezing her eyes shut she finally manages to yell, "I-I... W-w-we forfeit! You win..." As she says so, she recalls Rana to her Poké Ball, clutching it to her chest and turning to look at Sibyl. Abbey's gaze is terrified, but begs her groupmate to accede to her proclamation; before anything worse happens to her Pokémon.

Douglas gives a grin that isn't entirely cruel. "There now, that wasn't so hard, was it?" He turns to look at Sibyl. "You?" His Flabebe, meanwhile, begins singing a sweet melody.

So is Isabella if you want to do the Bon Mot thing, as Douglas will delay down to after you.

"Chouette!" Entirely heedless of the fact that there are still attacks flying around out there, Isabella runs a few steps toward her stricken Pokémon. She looks up at Douglas with an ugly glare.

"Nice job cheating, salaud. Got an unfair advantage and you still couldn't take us out without a lucky shot. Did Juan teach you that one or did you come up with it all on your own?" She recalls Chouette without looking, her eyes still locked on Douglas.

Jeremy stands and walks over to the boy with the backpack. He can hear the girls dealing with the rich boy, but doesn't want to face them yet, worried that they'll blame him for costing them the match.

"Ey man," He says as he approaches the boy, "I gotta admit that I really underestimated you and your Abra. I don't know why it kept falling asleep, but once you can get it to stop doing that you're going to be one hell of a competitor." Jeremy sticks his hand out, "I'm Jeremy. Nice to meet ya."

Sibyl looks up, the fire of competition burning in her eyes as she looks at Douglas. She shouts back without thinking, "No! We still-", cutting off as reality sinks in as she looks around. With Abbey stepping out, she was on her own. Part of her wanted to see it though to the bitter end, but she realises it was probably an unnecessary prolonging of the battle. Plus, it looked like pushing on wasn't a popular choice around here, even if she didn't like it. She scowls briefly, looks back at Abbey with an expression of grudging agreement, and recalls Miriam without a word: she wouldn't give Douglas any more satisfaction. She got the distinct feeling that she'd have another chance later on.

Douglas...stammers a little. "But - but I won. That's all that matters really, isn't it?" It was obviously intended to sound haughty though it comes off rather more as unsure.

There are a few moments of quiet before the frizzy-haired girl pipes up in an obvious attempt to defuse the situation a little, having stepped into the battlefield herself at the same time as Isabella had. "Well, I think everyone did well! I mean, they did manage to beat Mr. Squiggle and...oh I can't pronounce her name...Eeyooee?...'s Bellsprout, and Gabriel. Thank you for the battle, even if you didn't win!" she adds, still apparently cheerful as ever, moving forwards to rather unexpectedly hug Isabella (who happens to be closest) before moving on to hug Abbey and Sibyl as well. "Oh, I'm Nina by the way! Nice to meet you!"

The backpack-wearing boy, meanwhile, looks up at Jeremy, seeming a bit more nervous now the battle is over. "Oh, er...thanks, but I think Whisper deserves most of the credit. I'm not really good with Pokemon. I'm Zai," he adds.

Abbey smiles in relief and gratitude as Sibyl recalls her Pokémon. It's at about that point that the adrenaline runs out, sending her crumpling to her knees with a great sigh. She was disappointed, but... jittery, even while feeling drained. Are all battles like this? She isn't sure she likes this feeling. Then again, she isn't sure she doesn't either.

One thing she doesn't like is the feeling of disappointment. Even though they had gone into the battle with an obvious disadvantage, they had been doing so well that some small part of her had hoped they would manage to pull off the underdog win. Her logical brain tells her this is the expected result, but her heart is still bitter about it.

But she can't let Rana see that. She had tried so hard and done so well. She deserves for her trainer to be proud of her; and she is. Releasing the Pokémon, now no longer in any danger, she reaches down to rub her head affectionately. "You did great Rana! I'm sure we'll win next time," she says encouragingly.

That's when the frizzy-haired girl, Nina apparently, catches her in an embrace. Caught off guard by the sudden physical contact, Abbey stiffens up and manages to stammer, "I... um... th-thanks! It's... nice to meet you too. I'm, um, Abigail... b-but you can call me Abbey... if you want..." Once again her voice trails off at the end. "I-I hope your other groupmate isn't too... too angry with me," she says, looking down. The other girl's Pokémon had barely had time to do anything at all in the battle before being ganged up on and taken out. Again her heart and mind are at odds since she feels pretty badly about the whole thing despite the sound tactical decision.

Isabella's sense of satisfaction at Douglas's obvious discomposure is derailed slightly by suddenly getting hugged. Apparently she's going to need to watch out for that if they run into each other again.

She manages to push down her instinct to lash out at Nina. It's just too much like kicking a Togepi, or something else small and enthusiastic. "Yeah. You guys weren't bad yourself. I'd hate to get in, uh, Mr. Squiggles' way when he gets bigger. Or Whisper's, either. We gotta have a rematch sometime..."

She glances aside at Douglas again and grits her teeth. Under her breath, she adds, "... when everybody's learned to fight fair." Isabella isn't used to losing, and it's very obvious. She's having to work at it to keep her anger focused on the guy who deserves it instead of just exploding in a big ball of sore-loser-ness. She reaches up to fiddle with her headband, taking a deep breath to try and calm herself. "Anyway, it's, uh, nice to meet you, Nina and Zai."

Sibyl also takes satisfaction Isabella in taking Douglas down, even if it’s only verbally, before being attacked by Nina’s hug, not really expecting anything kind at all in this moment. She awkwardly half-returns the hug, saying in friendly reply, “Well, you too. We’ll get you next time though,” offering a slight smile. Nina’s friendliness makes Sibyl feel a little less salty, reconsidering an outburst about giving up too early.

She adds a bit later, “Oh yeah, I’m Sibyl. Sibbie, if you’d like. You guys seem OK, unlike some of us,” looking pointedly over at Douglas.
