I have a lot of love for Type Sync for the plethora of thematic options it provides. I don't care how it sounds, I like to be the special snowflake, and Type Sync more than accounts for that.

A few of my DMs in the past were not super fond of it, mostly due to the effort involved in converting pokemon, and potential balance issues that could arise. These are both agreeable points, and while disappointed, it wasn't a big deal, and I still had fun. Anyways, that's besides the main point. I finally got one who's letting me use it!

In this campaign I am a Swarmlord and a Bug Ace, and I have acquired Type Sync. We will be using http://forums.pokemontabletop.com/topic/9855045/1 as a guide when converting types. I am well aware that changing things to Bug will make them worse in many instances. I am not looking for a way to negate this, or make it more beneficial. I am doing it for thematic reasons, and I have come to terms with the fact that I am making what will most likely be negative trades. What I am looking for is things that will be interesting, or fun to use. I am not opposed to things that could actually benefit from a bug typing, and I would love to hear some.

So far, I am pretty fond of the idea of a Greninja who loses Water for Bug. I really like the idea of a stealthy insect type, not to mention it would be the only Dark/Bug type ;) . It would have Threaded(it already has Wallclimber) instead of gills, which would suit the idea of a ninja quite well. As for the abilities, I think my DM may have been pretty generous, but he swapped Mud Dweller for Run Away and Wash Away for Vanguard. I don't know how good these are as far as optimization, but they sound fun for the idea of a ninja I have brewing in my head.

Does anyone else know of, or can anyone think of some interesting Type Sync'd Bug options?

Any humanoid Pokemon becoming part-Bug could become a drider-like version of themselves. I have a part-Bug Meloetta in the Battle Castle game that works this way.

I was thinking the same thing! Several of them look positively terrifying, at least, in my head. My issue was any resemblance to genesect, which could actually be cool in its own right, but the idea of a drider circumvents that.

I was looking at the Abra line which I liked a lot for the idea. It's less pronounced in Abra and Alakazam, but Kadabra's tail always had an abdomen feel. They also had those segmented joints, and facial whiskers. I might actually try and do one of these, admittedly because there are no Bug/Psychic, but I was initially drawn to the line for their appearance.

There was one I was looking at, Wigglytuff and co, and then I realized it would just be a big pink venonat. I turned towards Togepi after that, as I happened to be digging through fairy types at that time, and I found that the Togepi line would be an interesting one to modify. Eggs already work well with insects, and I think Togekiss' body just screams bug. There is a ton of lore on fairies, and in a lot of it, they are actually insect like in appearance. I'm trying to stray away from the plethora of butterfly/moth like pokemon so I was thinking a large fly for a Togekiss, with a soft rounded appearance so it would look more whimsical and less... revolting

Edit: Totally forgot your own example. I think that fits very well! She does seem to be at least loosely inspired by elves, and in some lores, driders are corrupted elves. It would also look nice aesthetically. What type did Bug replace? Did she take threaded? I think the image of a Meloetta spinning web into a make shift harp would be eerie, but pretty awesome.

I would like to refer you to this post by EK that tells you why Bug is pretty much the best Type shift ever.

Bug replaces Normal for both her forms, so she switches between Bug/Psychic and Bug/Fighting. I actually made sprites, which you can see here. And she doesn't have Threaded, although that's because Battle Castle uses somewhat different Type Shift rules. (You keep all your old abilities and capabilities, and only get one new move. This can be useful for stuff like type-shifting Pokemon to types that their original abilities can cancel out weaknesses for.)

I hate to derail this, but I'm coming back after a long break, and was curious: 1.05 doesn't seem to have the type sync mentioned at all in the core rulebook, not under general features, or type ace. Just where is this located at?

I had stumbled upon this after my initial post. I agree with everything said in that post. I'm not sure bug is the best type shift, but I no longer undervalue it. Thanks for the link, and I'll keep the info in mind.

On another note, I'm liking Mawile as a potential type shift candidate. No statistical reason, at least, none I've looked into so far, but I love that giant mouth. Just imagining a cutesy little humanoid, turns around with giant insectoid chasm of a mouth. Gave me a chuckle.

Those sprites are adorable. Meloetta with spider legs is an interesting thing to see. I don't think I'll be encountering any of them anytime soon, but assuming I don't hit my type sync limit, I might give it a try.

You could take inspiration from the mimicry often found in the insect kingdom. For example, you could have a Golem that looks normal ...until it splits in half to reveal that it is only a giant mouth on legs.

On a less horrifying note, caterpillar Dratini/Dragonair into a butterfly Dragonite could be interesting. Also, I find the prospect of ball-of-worms Tangela far more amusing than I should.

... Ball-of-worms Tangela might be the greatest thing I've ever heard.
