Isaac nodded, while he would have been up for more adventure he stands by the decisions of his fellows, especially those who are more 'learned' than him "Alright, I getcha. Let's grab sum of them mushrooms on the way back though, that way the trip wasn't wasted." He then began heading back towards the base |

((Alrighty, guys, let's get ready for some magi-technobabble. Wall of text incoming!)) Bil is intently working on his problem, unaware of SHane looking over is shoulder for a few minutes. Then, thhe no longer can ignore the tingling sensation someone is watching him and looks up and around. Seeing Shane standing rather close, looking over his shoulder without a sound, he startles. "Sweet Arceus!" He takes a moment to regain his cool, before speaking. "I am sorry Shane, I had not noticed you standing there. Is there something you wanted to ask?" Then, noticing the boy's interest in his notes, he smiles and nods. "So, you are curious as to what it is I am doing, I take it?" He flips back a few pages through his notebook, until somewhere near the beginning, which shows runic arrays that are a lot smaller than the one he is currently working on. "For that, I am afraid that I am going to need to explain the basics of my craft, as I assume that you are not familiar with the subject?" He waits for a moment for Shane to answer, before continueing. "The base of my craft lies in the so-called Shards, multicolored pieces of a glass-like substance, each imbued with some minor arccane energy, which are charged from the residual life force, aura, from the world around them, given of by human, Pokémon and plants alike. Normally, these shards on themself hold little power, barely enough to even be noticable. However, this energy is also unique to the shards, and as such it is quite easy to atune specialised equipment to this energy signature, which can pick up this one particular signature and little else, but which needs only a little of this energy to pick it up. Now, any person possessing the right knowledge can in theory imbue some of their own aura into the Shards, using this as a rather unellegant way of charging them. However, with this method, you will in one fell swoop add a lot of energy to the Shard, usually more than it can technically handle. As such, the Shard will become unstable. When left to long in an unstable state, Shards will ... the correct term is engage in an extreme exothermic reaction, which is to say, they will explode. This is, as you can imagine, not a preferable outcome, especcially because it is next to impossible to accurately estimate when an unstable Shards will explode. As such, an unstable Shard is not suitable for any true use in crafting, however, that is not to say that this particular method of charging them, that is, imbueing them with pure aura energy, is in itself useless. Methods have been developed that give a small amount of guidance to the energy, giving the Shards a prior stated purpose. A simple spell can be used to charge a single Shard into a Gem of an appropriate Type. Although more stable than purely charged Shards, Gems are still not the most stable of items, and they will give off all of their power at once, giving a temporarily boost to a creature's Attack of the matching Type. For example, an Electric Gem would boost Nikola's Thunder Shock once, in the process using up all of its energy and reverting into a worthless piece of colored glass. Now, if you have four of the same colored, another, related spell will allow you to create the Evolution Stone of the matching color, a Fire Stone for Red, a Grass Stone for Green, a Water Stone for Blue, a Thunder Stone for Yellow, a Shiny Stone for Orange and a Dusk Stone for Violet. These items, as you will know, allow several species of Pokémon to evolve, and they too, can only be used once, releasing all of their energy to allow a Pokémon to evolve. Now, it is when you want to use Shards to create more permament effect, that things start getting tricky. Just imbueing the Shards with aura will not suffice to create long lasting effects, as aura is an energy of life, it does not bind well to lifeless things, and as such the energy will escape, violently. As such, methods to use what little energy inherent to the Shards seemed to be the only option. Reportedly, years and years of research went into this project, however, it was several centuries ago, so reports are a bit dodgy on that regard. I will spare you the details, but roughly thirteen centuries ago, a hidden form of energy was found inside the Shards, unleashes only when the right symbols of power, that is to say, runes, where ingraved into them. With this, a new age came in the art of arcane crafting, as more exotic and, more importantly, lasting uses could be gained from the shards. This, my friend, is where runic arrays come into play. You see, although this power was a lot more stable than the original aura charged Shards, it was also quite a bit more powerful, and as such needed to be carefully guided, given a distinct and lined-out purpose, or else ... well, again an extreme exothermic reaction would occur. Noticing a trend yet?" He smiles at the other boy, before pointing to the drawing in his notebook, showing four symbols, arranged in a triangle pattern, with one symble on top, two on the bottom and one in between them, connecting the other three. "This is an example of such an array. As a matter of fact, it is the precise array I would use to create a Fighting Brace, the item I promised you." He points at the middle symbol, "With both Type Boosters and Braces, the middle symbol always indicate the related type. Obviously, only a matching colored shard can be used to make a specific Type Booster or Brace." He points to the upper corner of the triangle, "This symbol indicates the items use, so it specifices whether it will become a booster or a brace. Only two options are possible here, the rune for Power and the rune for Protection." He points to the lower right corner, "This symbol again represents the type, though in this case it also represents its use. In this case it means Life or Life Force, Aura." He points at the last rune, "And finally, this rune charges the item, gives it its power and energy. Once all the Shards have been engraved and through magic have been fused together, all the crafter needs to do is charge it, or rather, jumpstart the device, using a spell to imbue a small amount of aura energy into the powering rune, which will activate it and allow it to tap into the well of arcane energy." He flips a few pages forwards, until he reaches a larger than before runic array. "This is a design for what is called a Stat Booster, a Speed Booster to be exact. I will not bore you with the exact details of what rune does what, as with larger arrays like this, it gets a lot more complicated, but I will tell you why this array is larger than the previous one . The Type Braces, as well as the Boosters, both have a rather specified use, that taps into one of the more fundamental forces in this world, that is to say, the eighteen Types. As such, it is logical that less runes and Shards would be needed to get the desired effect, especially considering the fact that Shards are already tied to particular Types. However Stat Boosters, as well as Focuses, are not tied to the fundamental forces, as such more are needed to perform equally well, or even at all. An upside to their lack of elemental connection is that a crafter can use any colored shard at hand to make it, even combining several different ones into one creation, which gives another reason why it is larger. Because of the fact that different, at times conflicting Shards are used, less power can be put into each Shards, less the constant flux of different elemental powers cause an overload and ... again, an explosion. Now, the design I am currently working on," he flips back to the page where he was working, showing several designs, all with a lot of different runes, "Is in essence simple. I want to make an object similiar to a Focus, which grants a flat boost to one stat, as opposed by the percental boost of a Stat Booster, but that can, with the right arcane manipulations, be repurposed, so that the stat that is boosted changes to a different one. Now as you might be capable of seeing, this requires a lot of parts that are not completely specified, which is a problem in and on itself, however, what it also requires is a lot of Shards, to my estimations two of each, which will create a lot of excess energy, which I somehow need to release. That, my friend, is what I am currently working on. Not exactly an easy feat, I can tell you. Does that satisfy your curiosity?" During his whole ... well, lecture, Bill's voice had been passionate, though he had spoken no louder, or faster than his usual tone of voice, truly showing that he loved what he was doing, and that he enjoyed talking about it, explaining it. He looks expecantly at Shane, waiting for the mute boy's reaction. |

Throughout Bill's lecture, Flynn has been staring blankly. Even though it wasn't aimed at him, he was still trying to keep up, but it's clear that every word went in one ear and out the other. He looks upside down at Bill, lying on his back with his legs going up and resting against a tree trunk. "Hey, that reminds me... sort of." He begins. "I've been thinkin'... yeah, yeah, I know, the jokes write 'mselves: "That's a first!", "Did it hurt?" I heard 'em all. Anyway, if we're gonna make this little clubhouse into a permanent residence... and I'm not sayin' we should, but if we do, we're gonna need some way to keep unwanted guests outta here. Naughty and/or angry primates, f'rexample. Now, makin' rough walls, roof 'n' door should be possible." He looks around at the platform. "Probably, but we're gonna need some way o' lockin' it if we do. Don't suppose you could come up with somethin' like that with those little coloured doodads o' yours?" He looks away, sheepishly. "Or not, it's... just a thought." |

Isaac and Dante are able to make their way back to the camp with little difficulty and without incident. The others still seem to be up and about as they arrive, though the light is all but gone. The sounds of the night life return, but there is no braying howl of Zoroarks tonight... ((Once everyone's settled in, we can go to the next day.)) |

As he entered the camp, dropping next to the fire and laying down, staring up towards the stars, Isaac releases an exasperated sigh. He was hoping to help Dante to catch a Pokemon in order to repay him for all the healing. Finding and catching things was all he was good at, other than maybe fighting. Shaking his head he realizes he came back when Bill was in the middle of a speech explaining something that he didn't understand in the slightest, though it sounded really complicated. Rolling onto his stomach he tries to listen intently during the tail end of the explanation but just can't get it. |

Bill finally notices the others have returned, and that everyone is looking at him. He blushes slightly, unused to the attention. At Flynn's comment, he looks up, surprised. "That is ... actually not a bad idea. I mean, there are certainly means for a skilled practitioner of the arcane arts to cast protective wards, however, I can not, for one reason or another, cast any active magic. However, I might be capable of capturing the same magic in Shards and laying out a ward scheme like that..." He trails off, deep in thought. Occult Education Check: 23 |

Shane's poor head is a whirl, though he nods for Bill to continue whenever a lull appears in the explanation. Runic arrays...elemental thingies...but hey! It was magic! Who knew that it was so complicated? Most of the guys on T.V. merely seemed to wave their hands around. This sounded a lot less mysterious and more like a science than what he'd envisioned. Still, his self-proclaimed mission was to learn as much about these things as he could so he could better fight and defeat the hostile forces that used them! Therefore, he paid as careful of attention as he could. Afte the lecture was over and the question about the wards was addressed, he scratched out a message on the ground. Cool. What other sorts of things can you do with this, theoretically? He nods and smiles to the others, welcoming them back. Mystery starts to snore peacefully. His 'learning-quota' must be full for the day. No more room for any new knowledge, thank you! Come back tomorrow with your shards and things. |

Bill, you think that you should be able to make some kind of locking mechanism utilizing certain shards, and using the resonant properties of an opposing type of shard to disrupt the lock, thereby forming a sort of crystalline key, but you're not quite sure how many shards it would take. |

After some careful consideration, Bill nods slowly. "I might be capable of creating a lock of sort, using one type of Shard to hod close a door or ward an area, and using an opposing Shard to temporarily disable it, allowing us entrance and functioning as a key. However, I will need some time to properly plan this out and make a satisfactory design." ((Would it be okay if I were to make a complete design for this thing with an Extended Skill Check? Like, having me roll an Edu: Occult Skill Check every day and once I've hit the DC (which would be high) I have finished the design and should be capable of putting together the locking mechanism without problem.)) |

Nodding along mindlessly Isaac eventually says "I have no idea how you would do that but it sounds like you know what you're doing." Laying back down and releasing Lolth and Midna he speaks back up "I think I might go to sleep, that little failed outing to find those Deerling tuckered me out. Wake me up when ya want me to do a shift on watch!" |
