Dante

You awake, a gentle breeze blowing across your face. You're lying on your back on what feels like grass. Well, not quite grass, it's actually a bit springy. Rubbing your fingers through the blades of grass it has almost a rubbery consistency. As you take your first conscious breath through your nostrils you notice it smells somewhat odd. It doesn't smell at all like a desert. For that matter, you don't recall there being grass in the desert. As you open your eyes, you're greeted by a ruddy red sky the color of rust with some fluffy white clouds. The sun is high above you now, and off to your right you see far less friendly clouds, dark and grey, the sound of thunder echoing from their direction.

As you find your feet you realize that you're on a hilltop. The hilltop is covered in some of the strange red grass you'd been lying on, and the hill appears to be surrounded by gentle plains on all sides. A ways off to your right is a winding river with sandy banks that stretches off, far as the eye can see in both directions. Beyond that the plains rise into foothills and mountains in the distance. At your right, beyond the plains, there is a large forest with brown and yellow canopies and fairer skies. The forest, too, stretches as far as the eye can see, both to the horizon and across it.

Eventually an idea strikes you. Your pokedex contains a map, magnetic compass, and GPS system that is supposed to work anywhere in the world. If you were to check it, surely it would tell you where you are.

Isaac

A slight breeze blows across you, causing you to stir. As you stir, you hear the rustle of leaves coming from above you and Lolth asleep at your feet. You open your eyes, finding yourself lying on your back on some strange kind of grass. It's red, with the consistency of rubber, and quite springy. Above you is a canopy of strangely colored leaved. On the bottom the leaves appear a deep crimson, but as they shift in the wind their brown and yellow tops are revealed.

As you find your feet, you appear to be just on the edge of a forest. You can tell that the forest at your back extends to your left and right as far as the horizon, and beneath its eaves it appears to be quite dark. Before you the land opens into a large plain covered with more of the red grass. In the distance you can see a river that appears to have sandy banks, though it's hard to tell from the distance. Beyond that the land turns to foothills, and mountains in the distance. The sun is high in the sky, which is the color of rust, and beyond the river the sky darkens into angry storm clouds with sparks of lightning visible, reinforced by the sound of distant thunder.

Shane

You're awoken with the familiar sting of salt in the air and a gusty breeze blowing over you. You hear the faint lapping of waves. As you open your eyes, you find yourself laying on your back. The sky above you is the color of rust, with the sun high in the sky among white clouds. You're lying on a sandy beach, Mystery asleep at your side, his hind leg kicking playfully, and waves lapping lightly against the heels of your boots. Speaking of sand, as you begin to get up, you've got sand in places you never knew you had--places where sand most certainly does not belong. The water of the river is a muddy brown color.

As you stand, you can see that the river extends to your left and right as far as the eye can see. Before you, across the river, are some plains of...red grass. They seem to rise into foothills, and mountains beyond. Above these foothills is an angry grey sky, the loud rumble of thunder and visible flashes of lightning serving as additional obvious warnings. Gusty winds blow from across the river. Behind you is another plain of the red grass which leads up to a forest of browns and yellows that extends across the horizon.

Eventually an idea strikes you. Your pokedex contains a map, magnetic compass, and GPS system that is supposed to work anywhere in the world. If you were to check it, surely it would tell you where you are.

Bill

You awake to the low rumble of distant thunder. You can tell you're lying on your back, on what appears to be a mat of grass. As you open your eyes, you're greeted by a tree, its limbs blowing in the wind. The leaves of the tree are brown, with an underside of deep crimson. Above the tree the sun is high in the sky which is an unusual hue of rusty red. Nikola lies curled up at your side, also on the field of...red...grass. The grass has the consistency of rubber and is quite springy.

Getting to your feet you can see a vast forest stretching before you a fair distance away. The canopy of the forest is brown and yellow, and it stretches to your left and right, and to the horizon. Surrounding you, aside from your one, lonely tree, is an expansive, wind-swept plain of the same red grass. At your back, and a fair distance off, appears to be a river with sandy banks that snakes its way as far as your eyes can see. Beyond that the plain gives way to foothills and eventually mountains. Above the foothills is an bank of dark thunderhead clouds, lightning and thunder issuing from them.

Eventually an idea strikes you. Your pokedex contains a map, magnetic compass, and GPS system that is supposed to work anywhere in the world. If you were to check it, surely it would tell you where you are.

Flynn

You awake to the gentle rustle of wind through grass, and the tickle of grass against your skin. As you open your eyes, you notice that you're laying in a field of tall grass...if grass were red, anyway... Above you, the sky is also a pale red, like the color of rust, with white fluffy clouds. As you stir, you notice Kurt laying sprawled beside your head, sleeping. The grass that you're both surrounded by feels rubbery and springy.

As you find your feet, you are able to stand above the grass which rises to your waist. Around you, for a significant distance, is more of this tall red grass, though it appears to get shorter some distance away. To your left there appears to be a large forest that stretches out to the horizon, its leaves of brown and yellow color. To your right the grass seems to grow right into a shallow, muddy pool in a river which extends out to the horizon in both directions. Beyond the river are foothills, and mountains beyond those, but above the foothills is a set of dark grey clouds. Lightning flashes beneath the clouds, and thunder echoes in the distance.

Eventually an idea strikes you. Your pokedex contains a map, magnetic compass, and GPS system that is supposed to work anywhere in the world. If you were to check it, surely it would tell you where you are.

"Alright girl, time to get up." Isaac gently shook his small arachnid friend until she awoke. Looking around the forest looked....alien to him. It was nearly familiar since he spent so much time in the woods growing up but at the same time something was off about it. Sitting up, with Lolth climbing up his back and settling there, he pulls out his Pokedex and attempts to find out where he is with the GPS on his map.

"What in the blazes?" Bill mutters as he gets up. He takes a look around, "Or maybe better, where in the blazes?"
What happened? Okay, retrace your steps. Last I remember, I was in the desert during an earthquake, I fell doown, the earth shattered and ripped apart... then ... then a blinding pale blue light hit me and then ... nothing. Now I am here ... wherever here is. Perhaps akin to somewhere or something I have read about?

"Wake up please, Nikola, I am afraid we are ... lost, I suppose," Bill says as he shakes the small reptile awake. Nikola yawns and stretches, him too looking around. "Wait, of course! My Pokédex should have GPS. If we are in fact somewhere on our Earth, at least... Well, it is worth a try." Bill gets out his Pokédex and starts scrolling through the apps untill he has found the GPS and boots it up.

Having regained his consciousness and his footing, Dante was disturbed by his change in surroundings.

"Odd smell? Red sky? Rubbery grass? Yeah... safe to say this is NOT the Mandarin Desert." The Kalosian trainer deadpanned. With a start, Dante realised that wherever he was, he was also alone.

"Isaac!" Dante called out, hoping for a response. Dante quickly released Eve from her Pokéball, remembering his partner's dislike of being confined in it. The Evolution Pokémon stared around at her surroundings and gave her a trainer a suspicious look, as if asking how long he'd kept her inside for them to not be in the desert any more.

"Hey don't blame me... that blue lightning after the quake must have teleported us or something..." Dante protested his innocence. "I don't know where we are... but I know something that might!"

Dante slid his backpack from his shoulders, rummaging through the contents until he found the precious PokéNav+ at the bottom of his bag (where else?) and loaded up the AreaNav app.

"This was so worth every Pyen I spent getting this upgrade imported from Hoenn..." Dante muttered. "One second Eve, we should know where we are soon enough..."

Flynn looks around, nonplussed. He takes one of the blades of grass and feels it between his fingers.

"Well... that's new." He says to himself before nudging Kurt with his foot. "Might wanna wake up there, Kurt, we, um... might have a bit of a problem here."

He looks at everything he can - the field around him, the sky and the position of the sun, trying to figure out where they might be, before the thought of the Pokedex hits him. He takes it off his belt and checks it, his feet moving anxiously.

As you flip open your pokedex one thing is immediately apparent. There's static on the screen, playing across it at irregular intervals. As you open the navigation app you see two words splayed across the map. Two words you've never seen before on your pokedex, and frankly shouldn't be possible.

Connection Lost.

Dismissing the message, your pokedex seems to think you're still on Mandarin Isle, displaying a map of the island with your last coordinates on them. The magnetic compass, however, seems to be working. Upriver is North, the mountains, foothills and storm clouds lie in the east, downriver is south, and the forest is west.

As you survey your surroundings you notice that the storm clouds are headed your way, and they look fierce. Fierce enough that you don't want to risk weathering the storm without shelter. The forest seems like it may provide some shelter, but there's no telling what lurks beneath it's shadowed canopies. The occasional click and howl of creatures issue from the forest. Some you recognize as being similar to pokemon calls, others less-so. Either way, judging by that storm front you only have a few hours to decide what to do.

As you try and decide you hear a decidedly human shout echo down from the north, and it sounds like it's shouting 'Isaac!'

Bill

Searching your encyclopedic knowledge of the otherworldly, nothing quite seems to fit. There are recorded cases of suspected time travel, but all of those involved direct contact or encounters with pokemon of legendary stature, never mind that there was no point in history that is depicted with rusty skies and red flora. There aren't any cases of pokemon transporting people through space either. It is quite perplexing.

Connection Lost.

Given your technical background, the significance of that message is not lost on you. For one reason or another, your pokedex is not communicating with the GPS satellites.

As you delve into these mysteries, something gets Nikola's attention and he appears to be staring off to the north, tugging at your pants leg.

Dante

Eve paws at the grass curiously as your shout echoes across the landscape. As you rummage through your bag the whip-crack of thunder draws your attention. That storm front is getting closer, and you don't want to be out in it, especially up on this hill like a lightning rod.

As you flip on your PokeNav+ one thing is immediately apparent. There's static on the screen, playing across it at irregular intervals. As you open the AreaNav app you see two words splayed across the map. Two words you've never seen before on your pokedex, and frankly shouldn't be possible.

The magnetic compass, however, seems to be working. Upriver is North, the mountains, foothills and storm clouds lie in the east, downriver is south, and the forest is west.

Looking down from your vantage point on the hill you can see a single, lonely tree away to the south, and tall grass beyond that far in the distance. What catches your eye, though, is what looks like a body lying next to the riverbank...

Flynn

Kurt rises, shaking his head groggily, and as you flip open your pokedex one thing is immediately apparent. There's static on the screen, playing across it at irregular intervals. The rumble of thunder catches your attention. That storm front looks like it's moving in, and it looks nasty. Don't wanna be around for that. There's not a whole lot of shelter nearby, there's a solitary tree nearby, and the forest a bit further off. As you look about you hear the chirping of insects, some familiar, some not. The occasional splash and plop as well, coming from the river. These natural sounds are disrupted by a decidedly human shout echoing down from the north, and it sounds like it said 'Isaac'! Snapping to face the direction of the sound, you can see what looks like a distant figure standing on a hilltop.

Neither Bill's knowledge nor his Pokédex has any clue as to what has happened or where they landed.
"Uxie's blessing! Where are we? No GPS connection, so wherever it is, it isn't our earth. I'm affraid we're not in Kanto anymore Nikola. I guess that makes you Toto. Or me the Great and Powerful Oz, I suppose..." he mutters to Nikola, before noticing the lizard had spotted something. "What's that buddy, you found something? Well, I suppose it is a direction to go. Let's head of then."

Bill and Nikola start walking north, following the river. "I do wonder if anyone else is here though..."

"Oh god... I hope this thing isn't broken..." Dante muttered irritably. This day was seriously getting worse and wor- the loud thunder crack made Dante jump out of his skin with a yelp of shock.

"Oh for Arceus' sake, a storm as well? Fantastic, just fantastic..."

Well, staying put wasn't an option... where best to head? Mountains was out, the storm was east, he didn't fancy getting lost in no forest so that just left... wait, what was that? Dante removed his glasses (thankfully intact), polished the lenses and replaced them on his face. It was!

"Eve, we found a human! Let's go!"

Dante set off for the body he could see by the riverbank at speed, Eve poking the grass one last time before following after her trainer.

Isaac stared blankely at his screen. This is why he wasn't like his dad and didn't like relying on tech anymore than he had to. Thankfully the device would still work as a compass but the map features were now worthless. He looked once more, shook it a little, and then placed it back in his pocket before hearing what seemed to be someone shouting his name.

"Wait is that...?" Isaac looks to the north before getting up and checking that Lolth was still on his back "Alright girl, we're heading towards the person shouting my name. We can come back here later." The hunter then begins his trek north towards the sound of his name.

Upon seeing the apparent malfunction, Flynn attempts a small amount of percussive maintenance along with a few muttered expletives about the Pokedex's parentage before the thunder, then the voice get his attention.

He goes to call out to the figure before remembering that they don't know what else is here or if the figure is friendly.

Instead, he ducks down and starts moving towards it, following it if it moves and keeping low within the grass. Kurt teleports onto his back, riding flat on it, and indicates the distant figure.

"You're the empath, you tell me!" Flynn replies to an empathic query. "Oh, wait, sorry, I know, distance. Well, once we're close enough, tell me if you sense anything suspicious or hostile from... whatever or whoever we find." He pauses as Kurt sends a bit of confusion. "I know, but we've just been taken to red-grass-land, can't be too careful."
