"Honestly? Even if Eve decides she doesn't want to evolve at all, I'd still respect that and help her to be the best Eevee she can be." Dante watched as Isaac released an Arachnid looking Pokémon that his Pokédex identified as Spinarak. The bug type certainly was an interesting little creature to say the least. Not something Dante would want to use personally but everyone was entitled to their own preferences.

"You got sent to catch something with no idea what it is? Sounds like a challenge. What did you get given to go on?"

The question went unanswered as the resulting silence was broken by an odd rustling sound in the bush behind Isaac. As a second rustle started behind himself and Eve, Dante swallowed nervously.

"I don't think we're alone..."

If Isaac was aware of the first intruder, Dante and Eve would keep an eye on where the second noise was coming from.

"Be ready for anything..." Dante whispered to his partner.

Isaac quickly pulled his knife from the sheath on his leg, holding the blade outwards, like a natural extension of his arm. Standing himself at the ready he quickly shouted an order to his partner "Lolth, get ready to flank and web. If we have to we'll do the usual!" The small green spider jumps from his head to his side and begins to spin webs in front of it, preparing to fire them off at a moments notice.

"Show yourself, who or whatever you are! I know you're there!"

At Isaac's command a small, purple and tan rodent darts out of the bush and across their camp, heading off into the darkness on the far side of the camp. At roughly the same time, the entire bush that Dante was watching got up and began to run off in the same direction as the other intruder.

Around this time, Lolth and Eve begin to look slightly distressed. Something is making them anxious. ((Intuition or Edu: Pokemon checks, trainers only.))

"What th-"

While the sight of an entire bush chasing a Rattata was kinda distracting and totally surreal, Dante was aware enough to notice their partners' composure seemed to have taken a turn for the south.

"Easy girls, easy..." Dante tried to reassure them both, attempting to keep his eyes peeled for the cause of Eve and Lolth's worriment.

Dante

Dante's experience with a plethora of pokemon kicks in. Firstly, he's able to easily recognize the silhouette and gait of the running 'bush' as that of a young female Sudowoodo. Additionally, you recall that pokemon are very in-tune with nature, able to sense natural disasters before they happen, and they tend to flee from them or become anxious and uneasy. Based on Eve's reaction, your best guess is that an earthquake is imminent.

Isaac

Your instincts are warning you that something isn't right. You've got a feeling of uneasiness and you feel unsteady on your feet, as if something were throwing off your balance, or as if something wasn't quite right with the ground.

Isaac had a look of fear come through his eyes "I don't know bout you but I think somethin is about to happen with the ground. It just don't feel right and even the Pokemon seem to be feelin it"

"Hey, it's a Sudo..." Dante started to call out to Isaac, only for more vital information to click in his brain.

"Xerneas preserve us... they're panicking because an earthquake's coming!"

Dante pulled Eve's Pokéball from his pocket and hurriedly attempted to recall his partner, the shaking ground making him miss his first attempt but not his second.

"You can hate me for this later..." Dante muttered, stowing the Basic Ball away in a pocket and zipping it closed. One blessing for being in a desert... no buildings to fall on them. They just needed to keep an eye out for surprise fissures...

As Dante and Isaac search through their memories, trying to grasp on some hint of knowledge that might preserve them in the coming cataclysm, the world begins to grow quiet. The sounds of chirping insects and the predators of the night have completely ceased. Even the wind seems to have died down, though that must surely be coincidence. Only the campfire crackles on unimpeded. The stars look down on your hilltop, eager observers waiting for the show to begin as their heavenly eyes seem to twinkle with delight and eager anticipation. You both recall that during an earthquake it is best to be outside, away from any large structures. You both also recall that is is best to be on solid, stable ground in order to avoid the phenomenon called 'liquefaction', where loosely packed or very wet ground can be broken up and run like water. Isaac, you realize with relief that the hill you're standing on is a jutting dirt hill and not a sand dune, and is much more stable.

As you come upon this reassuring knowledge, the performance begins. The world begins to tremble and heave beneath you. You can feel the deep and terrible rumbling in your bones, you can hear it in your bones. It's incredibly difficult to stay on your feet, much less try to focus on something, but something in the distance is abundantly clear. Wind-blown dunes and hills of sand are collapsing, as you both knew they would. Around you the brush rustles and shakes, adding to the clamor. Just as you feel like it could never end, the shaking begins to abate. The world begins to settle down and calm.

The world returns to normal and the bushes cease their shaking. Just as you begin to feel safe and secure, however...

The world erupts into noise and shaking once again, though this time much worse. To your heightened and panicked senses, the situation feels like it plays out in slow motion. A loud cracking noise erupts from below the hill to the west, and you see in the pale starlight a crack travelling across the land at impossible speeds. Then the land beneath you is jerked, suddenly and forcefully, away as the crack erupts into a wide canyon. As the two sides of the canyon are thrust apart even as the ground slides along its length, shifting the hill you're standing on with a jerk. Something along the canyon seems to be falling in, all along its length, and you realize it's the sand below flowing into it as the shaking continues.

((Athletics or Acrobatics checks to keep your feet throughout this disaster.))

As the earthquake began in earnest, Dante felt at least some relief that Eve wasn't out of her ball to suffer this. If worst came to the worst, Dante would try and throw her ball to safety, assuming anywhere close was safe now. If today was going to be his last, he'd at least make sure Eve got another one.

Dante's nerves started to settle as the quake died down, only for an aftershock to rattle them once again.

"____ it! I'm not ___ing dying here!" Dante screamed, the noise of the natural disaster mercifully drowning out the profanities the boy uttered.

As a crack in the canyon rapidly developed into a fissure Dante knew with all his heart that down that sandy stream into the hole was the last place he intended on going. Whether he could prevent that, was all down to fate now.
