The night was cold, but the sand was always warm. It was always such in the desert, as Prince Zhubayr “Zhu” Adbul Zafar El-Hashem knew well. Well, former Prince, anyway. He had traveled far during the day, eager to leave the city behind, and now the city was well out of sight—not even the barest hint of lights on the horizon to betray its location despite Zhu’s place on the hill. As he sat on the hill with his campfire he was rewarded with a breathtaking view of the stars, only the light of his campfire blocking out the faintest of heavenly lights. He was alone. No sign of any other camps for miles around. Just a boy and his ‘mon. ((Perception Check)) |

Zhu sat silently, enjoying the solitude. Najya burrowed contentedly beside him, searching for Nincada larvae or other small snacks buried in the sand. The hill he had found himself on served his needs well at the moment, and Dialga damn whomever interrupted him. |

As Zhu sat in silence and his compatriot dragged on the stars twinkled with promises of what was to come. Below Zhu's hilltop perch he noticed an oasis with a few palm trees, the moon and stars reflected by the still waters. As he sat and his comrade burrowed about, suddenly and without his notice a small brown pokemon burrowed up right next to him. It came up and looked about before looking Zhu in the eye, and with a 'Diglett!' it retreated into the sands again. As soon as it had gone, another one appeared and left in the same fashion. Then another, and another...dozens of them in all, and all headed in the same direction. Najya returned to the surface beside Zhu, an expression of worry on its face. ((Intuition or Edu: Pokemon)) |

"Not now, Najya. Those Diglett look a bit too distracted to have a proper battle anyway." He stands up and kicks some sand onto the fire before lying down to try and sleep in order to face the next day. |

Eventually the Diglett leave, though Najya still seems worried. The night grows very quiet, unusually so. Even the nocturnal creatures seem to be holding their tongues. Perhaps they know they're in the presence of royalty. Perhaps... As Zhu just begins to slip over the cusp of sleep, the world beneath him erupts into noise and motion. The hilltop on which you sit shakes and shudders as the world beneath you convulses. You are now wide awake. The oasis below, previously a calm pond with the likeness of a mirror, is now a turbulent and frothing pool of waves. As quickly as the quake began...it ended. Looking about, you see that many sandy hills and dunes have collapsed around you. Fortunately, yours was not one of them. Just as you begin to feel safe, the upheaval starts anew, though more forceful this time. You can feel the hill beneath you shake more violently. It feels as though deep below something is slipping... ((Athletics or Acrobatics)) |

During the lull in the quaking you manage to recall Najya, though the reprieve is short lived. As the second, larger quake begins in earnest, the sandy hill you lay atop disintegrates and collapses, the sand rushing like a landslide towards the oasis. It carries you into the shallows, which thankfully cushion your fall, though the shaking continues unabated. As you sit in the shallows, you notice that the rest of the hill you had been in is crumbling...and falling towards you in a wall of sand. Just as you are about to be consumed by the sands you are enveloped by a pillar of blue light. The light is accompanied by an deep thrumming noise, and little painless arcs of lightning play across everything illuminated. At first the sound is low, but it builds and builds, eventually drowning out the sound of the earthquake. The light builds in intensity with the sound until all you can perceive is intense blue light and the thrumming sound. Then, suddenly, you lose consciousness. ((And that is your prologue! A little truncated due to some rolls and in the interest if getting you caught up, so make your way over to the Chapter I thread and give me a perception and survival roll.)) |
