Hey there. I'm sort of a new GM and a large number of the games that I've been GMing in other systems have folded just as I've found PTU. I have a really awesome concept for a game that I've fleshed out quite a bit, some interesting hooks, and a desire to run. And I'm absolutely terrified. I really want to start a game, and I looked at the advice for getting players together here on PTf, but I'm scared of screwing up. For starters, I don't know the best method of doing it. Part of me wants to run a game say, every other week or even once a month via Skype+Roll20, but is that not often enough? Part of me wants to run a PbP game, but I've heard so many bad stories about how PbP games always run so slowly and are horrible to GM and hard and some of the stuff I've seen on this forum supports that. I'm also worried that if I start a game, I'll mess up. Honestly, I'm even terrified I'm putting htis int he wrong section of the forum! So, does anyone have any advice for me to think about? Am I in over my head or making a huge mistake? I'd normally go to my friends but not many of them are interested in Pokemon and meshing schedules with them is very very difficult. Do you think I should give it a shot? |

Every-other week or once a month are fine, lots of people schedule games with about that frequency. It's probably fine unless you also run very short sessions, in which case it might just take a while to get anything done. I do not recommend PbP personally though. If you've GM'd before I think you'll be fine; just give it a shot. As far as finding a group, I'm not sure I can give you any amazing advice except the obvious: you can visit the IRC ( #PokemonTabletop on irc.rizon.net) and talk to folks; I'm sure you'll find some people that are interested in joining a game. |

To be honest, I don't know anything at all about IRC. Is it easy to use? I've always avoided it because when I was first starting to be internet-conscious, there were a lot of bad things that happened around IRC so I never got to learn much about it. Still, I'll definitely give it a shot if you think it'll help or work! |

While I still have yet to use Skype roll20 I'm in 5 games at the moment, 4 run every other week for four hours each. I play Sunday nights and Tuesday's nights and don't have any problem keeping track of what's going on. It helps that it's a group and everyone can join in when talking about what happend last week. The other is my Pokemon game that I run whenever I get the time. This may be a few times a week or a months at a go. The users here have made some very good tools to help it. As for pbp I used to play on a Fantasy site that was gmless and was just two people playing off each other. As long as you keep on top of it, and players or yourself don't vanish and try to post everyday it will work. I tried to run this but twice on this site and things happend in my real life and I couldn't get online at all and I still feel bad about it. |

IRC isn't much bother at all. Instructions are at the top of the page, or here if you're lazy. As M-F stated, you'll almost certainly find folks that are interested in a game. |
