No, I'm saying that it's dumb to argue with one person, when it's the media fault that it's still used. As long as its widely accepted on the media, theres no stopping people who find it 100% acceptable, especially when they argue about how it's fine. Like trying to change a person's belief when it comes to religion. It just leads to unnecessary stress for all involved. This isn't even the purpose of the thread. The purpose is asking for tips on his campaign, not tips on characters that only exist for 5-10 minutes before being gone forever. Now, if you excuse me, I've been trying to escape the debate part of this thread, and getting PM's and quotes isn't helping. |

I don't know about how you play NPC's up as? and I don't care. I do think you are playing with fire regarding taking control of a player's pokemon, and you need to be careful with it. Also, please make certain that everybody at the table is having fun. Being realistic is nice, but Pokemon is not meant to be realistic in terms of life bending you over all of the time, so try not to make a habit out of that. |

After skimming things through: A: The more traps/punishment you pull on players, the less trustful the players will get. B: Using racial stereo types as hints to NPCs actions? Big no no. Its insulting to people. C: Theres a good rule about DMing, "Does it add plot and/or add fun? Great!", "Does it only add frustration and wasting players time? Not a good idea." D: Removing ones core concept in pokemon, the pokemons from the equations? Through mindcontrol or stealing with snatcherballs? Thats the stuff mewtwo might try. And makes for a very unfun game. E: Personally, im of the philosofy: "Can NPCs do special things? The PCs can also achieve the same things". I dont treat NPCs different from PCs in terms of access to special powers/fluff. As for using con-artists in games? If you want to instill distrust of NPCs? Could work, but make some more out of it like a plot point or an event/fight? Revenge or something. If its stereotypes? it only reinforces them to people, thus your contributing to racism. "Evil thrives where good is ignorant." i think is appropiet here. TLDR: DMing is about having fun and playing a game for both Players and DMs, its a group game and group effort. If your pulling tricks that only makes players upset and erodes trust in you as a DM and also using racist stereotypes? I can see players being very upset and leaving the games fast. The PC Trainers are supposed to be heroes and not punching bags of the DMs tricks. Im assuming you are just thinking about implementing ideas and asking for opinions. If you already have these implemented... you should ask other DMs how to make good campaigns and take lessons from them and really think how you DM. Edited by Dirk Darkshade, Jun 19 2015, 12:57 PM.
