One version of Ghost-Type shifting that I've seen was in one of my player's unused back-stories;

Warning, it's a little dark (hence why we trashed the character)

I've never really connected the Ghost type to honest-to-goodness disembodied spirits of the dead in the first place. Except where specifically stated in the dex, I just assume Ghost means nothing more or less than a spoopy creature that can phase through walls. Ghost-types can be made from actual spirits (I've heard a really good fan theory that Yamask are actually turned into Pokemon *on purpose*, or that they were supposed to be coming back as a different Pokemon but the process failed) but for the most part they're just their own thing. An interdimensional being.

So for me, when I think of Ghost-shifting, it's using Occult Edu to give Pokemon Danny Phantom powers like 90% of the time. If you think of bringing back a dead Pokemon as a way of restoring a beloved companion with a cool twist rather than a dark ritual sacrifice, there's not really an ethical dilemma.

Some people like it dark, though they're unlikely to be bothered by the ethical dilemma in the first place. Different Strokes.
