Explosion in Nuzlocke; Worthless due to faint?

If you use Explosion in a Nuzlocke challenge, do you have to release the Pokémon? Why or why not?

Yes because the mon fainted. Doesn't matter the reason. Otherwise it would be easy to abuse

If you didn't, you'd just explode the pokemon every time it was near death in order to avoid having to worry about it dying.

I'd make exception like "once per two towns" for Voltorb/Electrode. Because exploding is part of their life cycle, and not death.

*edit* and it have to be over 50% hp before exploding.
