Eventually I want to rig up some kind of formal map, but I'll have to do that at a later time.

At the moment this thread will be filled with known locations and details about these locations that the players know. I will update this thread as more information is discovered.

PLAYERS, DO NOT POST HERE WITHOUT MY EXPRESSED CONSENT. IF YOU WISH TO DISCUSS OR ADD ANYTHING TO THIS THREAD, BRING IT UP IN THE OOC THREAD FIRST.

Soma Regional Climate

Pokemon Training

Across the Soma region, like many other regions, are eight Pokemon gyms, each with gym leaders fitting a central theme or type. Many people train Pokemon in some way, shape, or form, but few people make it their job to do so. An individual must be at least ten years old to own a Trainer's license that legally allows them to own and raise Pokemon, although younger children may have permits under their parents' names for legal reasons. Pokemon Trainers who venture from gym to gym and are sponsored by a Pokemon Professor receive special licenses that allow them to train more types of Pokemon, along with other benefits. A Pokemon Trainer under the age of 18 with one of these licenses is considered emancipated and can legally make adult decisions, like vote and rent hotel rooms or cars, although there are certain things this does not cover. Trainer's License are an official form of ID in the eyes of government officials, and Pokemon Professors are more often than not also sponsored by the government. Pokemon Centers receive federal aid and are essentially non-profit organizations, like libraries but much more important.

Many people have at least one Pokemon in their possession, and it is common for people on the road to battle for fun. Pokemon may be wild creatures, but it is detrimental to a Pokemon's health to battle or otherwise satiate their natural instincts somehow. Pokemon often become restless or adopt unhealthy behaviors if they are unable to, such as a Pidgey pulling out its feathers or a Charmander clawing up the furniture. Battling with Pokemon equates to essentially playing fetch with your dog, and in a controlled environment it is not considered cruel or unusual as long as the Pokemon involved are not seriously injured and their wounds are seen to right away.

Government

Soma is a parliamentary republic, with each representative coming from an officially recognized district based upon population size. Regular judicial laws and laws involving Pokemon are handled differently, with the former coming from the parliament and the latter coming from an entity known as the Pokemon Council. The Pokemon Council is made up of 19 individuals: 8 Gym Leaders, the Elite Four, the 6 Frontier Brains, and the Champion. The Pokemon Council has final say for the ethical treatment of Pokemon, the criteria for issuance of Trainer's Licenses, which Pokemon Professors get how much funding, and other such details. Although these positions naturally cycle rather quickly, a Gym Leader, Frontier Brain, Elite Four Member, or Champion is subject to performance review and can be impeached if their requirements are not meant. They also face standing requirements and can be forcibly retired if they cannot meet these. The Champion cycles out every time he/she is defeated in a League Legal match for championship.

Two types of police are present: city police and Pokemon Rangers. Like the government, the split conforms to involvement of Pokemon. However, the line drawn between city police and Rangers is very well-defined and causes few issues, unlike their political counterparts. A Pokemon Ranger is only to be involved in a civil or mundane case should the presence of Pokemon make a difference in the ruling. For example, if someone attempt murder with a Charizard, this would not involve a Pokemon Ranger because attempted murder is attempted murder, but a Pokemon Ranger would step in for ruling who maintains custody of the Charizard. If a Trainer's carelessness results in another Trainer becoming killed in a battle by said Charizard, the Pokemon Ranger may be present for the entire case and ruling.

Outside of these larger entities, each large city governs a district that falls underneath them. For instance, Placid Hills falls underneath the Green District, as do anyone living in the general area and the medical facility. Hydrus City falls under the Aqua district and anything around it does as well. Each district may have varying laws, such as states, but no district law may trump a federal law.

Placid Hills - A Green and Windy Valley Town

A little slice of suburbia nestled far and away from most of civilization flanked by hills on two sides. It's a fenced-in yard kind of town, not that many streets and square acreage but the people get by there, mostly supplemented by regular shipments of goods from larger, much more enterprising cities. There's not much to see here other than independent housing. A school, a few independent Mom 'n Pop shops, basic infrastructure, etc.

Local Facilities of Mention
-A small hotel. Actually, it's run out of the property of an older gentlemen who's renting his house out to travelers, but whatever. A place you can stay for a small bit of coin.
-Dining establishments. There's a particularly well-known soda parlor that attracts the local youth, Cloud Nine Cafe, with some delicious smoothies and floats. Generally, you can expect to get some grub around this place.
-Pokemon Center
-Yankee Medical Facility. Named after Dr. Phillip Yankee, whose accomplishments in surgery improved and saved many lives. This hospital is actually quite impressive in size and capability, but it isn't needed as sorely as days past and is only managed by a skeleton crew of doctors and nurses. However, they are known as the best in the area and every now and again they'll have patients flown to the local trauma center and kept in Placid Hills for treatment.
-Placid Hills Pokemon Research. Managed by Prof. Amadeus Willow, a Pokemon Professor specializing in Pokemon anatomy and physiology. His funding is small, but he makes leaps and bounds besides the lack of money. His building is barely the size of a veterinary clinic with about the same equipment, throwing in some centrifuges and other medical supplies loaned or granted by Yankee Medical Facility.

Available Shops
-A PokeMart. These places seem to pop up everywhere, but Trainers can get the most basic of supplies here. Not much to offer because of the remote location, but it's better than nothing.
-Al's Hammer and Chisel. A hardware store and hobby shop combined into one! Al has been proudly serving the community at large for over a decade, and anything from lumber to tools to Crafting Kits can be found in his store.
-Lazy Daisy. Next to Al's Hammer and Chisel, Lazy Daisy is a gardener's best bet to get seeds for berries and apricorns, as well as Portable Growers. The shop owner has a promotional offer going with Al, where proof of purchase from one location on that very day will get 15% off total purchase at the other one time. Limited to purchases totalling $100 or more.
-Cloud Nine Cafe is known to sell some Chef's cuisine to-go on order.
-Finish Line Sporting Goods. Looking for a new golf club or hockey pads? Finish Line Sporting Goods has all your athletic needs and more! A good place to find some equipment, although some of the local hoodlums have been using some of their sporting gear as improvised weapons...
> No specialty items can be found at this location. If you can't get it in a convenience store, don't expect to find it here.
> Pokeballs only, nothing more efficient.
> Hi-Potions are stocked short, so supply is limited to customers.
> All forms of single Status Healing items are sold at this location, but Full Heals are out of stock for the foreseeable future. Revives are available in limited quantities.
> No food of any sort can be found at this location, one would have to travel to the grocers or local shops. Medical supplies can be bought directly from the local hospital.
>Tier 1 Berries and Apricorns are available at a slight markup.
>Anything that can be made by a Level 1 Chef optimized with cooking in mind is sold at the Cloud Nine Cafe, although it's a little pricey.
>Weapons and simple equipment can be bought at the hardware store or sporting goods store, but someone might ask questions if you're carrying around a sledgehammer...

What's Close?
North: A river flows to the West, then takes a bend and hits North toward a popular fishing location, Lake Placid. The terrain is grassy, with short trees sparsely populating the area.
East: A main dirt road cuts its way for a handful of miles to a large body of water, Lake Hydrus, the hosting location for Hydrus City.
South: An old abandoned chemical factory that used to support Yankee Medical Facility. Some of the more morally dark youth like to hang out her sometimes and it's become a breeding ground for pests.
West: A large berm, separating Placid Hills from the wild forest beyond. Miles of uncut forest lie that way, and other than a Ranger station a few miles out there's really nothing to see.

What Kind of Pokemon Have I Seen Here?
- None but pets so far, you're not quite a Trainer yet and wouldn't even know anyway. Even if you were, wild Pokemon within city limits is very rare.
- So far, you know that Prof. Willow is in possession of a Hippopotas, a Chatot, and a Weavile. There's also that small, large-headed Pokemon that vanished without a trace.

Chemical Road - A Barren Shipping Lane

The grass is tall and choked with weeds, and the yellowish color of the grass along the path is unhealthy yet faintly reminiscent of the prairie. A dirt road runs in a straight line towards an old brick building, a factory that used to support Placid Hills as the medical capital of Soma... but that was a long time ago. Now the runoff from the plant has strangled the life out of the surrounding land, and the tall grass is filled with a volatile mixture of Poisonous Pokemon and ordinary Pokemon that live in the prairie. Plant life has a hard time growing here, and the few, sparse trees and bushes that do have the gumption to grow are wilting and dying. Everything else is already dead.

Local Facilities of Mention
- An old abandoned chemical factory. This chemical factory was built and maintained to make things like Bandages and medical equipment for the Yankee Medical Facility. It's since been left forgotten for over a decade.

What's Close?
North: The township of Placid Hills.
East: A sea of grassland running up a short hillside. It cuts just behind Placid Hills Pokemon Research.
South: An old abandoned chemical factory that used to support Yankee Medical Facility. Some of the more morally dark youth like to hang out her sometimes and it's become a breeding ground for pests. Beyond is another steep hill separating Placid Hills from the forest wilds.
West: A large berm, separating Placid Hills from the wild forest beyond. Miles of uncut forest lie that way, and other than a Ranger station a few miles out there's really nothing to see.

What Kind of Pokemon Have I Seen Here?
- Spearow is native here, as well as what can be assumed to be both genders of Nidoran. A Venipede was also found, but it seems to be out of its element a little.
