Hi I'm new to being a GM but I've always had a bunch of ideas I wanted to try. When I found the PTU book online and read it I wanted to do a pokemon game. But I want to ether do the 8 Gym Leaders or the original idea of 9 Climate Bosses. Climate Bosses are just like Gym Leaders except their teams include pokemon native to the Climates they mastered. The Forest Boss would only have forest dwelling pokemon. After their defeat each boss adds a tm and Victory Code to the winner's PokeCell which will allows them to find a rare pokemon like Crystal Onix, or Black Tyranitar. With the ninth being hidden until the other eight are beaten. The Climates are Forest, Cave, Artic Tundra, Urban, Desert, Marsh, Volcano, Ocean Beach, Mountain. I want to do ether gym leaders or the original idea. Edited by ColeMason, Jan 7 2015, 05:00 AM.

Climate bosses could be cooler. The original 8 gym thing is over ran, heck i'm doing it. Newer ideas tend to be more fun to play with. It all comes down to your players though, ask them about it. If they're more traditional, they may prefer the Pokemon League as it stands. However if you run the climate idea by them and they're equally or more interested than you know what to go for. |

Climate bosses definitely. It would work well as a travel/survival adventure too. How are you going to scale a cliff of ice to get to the Tundra Leader? The Desert leader could always be on the move in the desert and you have to track him/her down. And you have the advantage of not having to actually create gyms for them to be confronted. It's a grand idea and as it has been stated, Gym Leaders are so fifth gen. |

Id also recommend downloading the PTU GM guide where they discuss encounter building, and gym leaders. It is very insightful. |

Hey, are you recruiting for a game here or just discussing how you want to construct your Pokémon League? If it's the latter, this should be in the PTU subforum since the Union Room is just a recruitment area for GMs. I can move the thread for you if you'd like. In addition to the GM chapter, you should check out these two blog posts I've written on the subject of Gym Design. http://pokemontabletop.com/gym-design-signature-elements/ http://pokemontabletop.com/gym-design-unconventional-challenges/ |
