A gym challenge idea I once had was something set in a theme park. Scattered throughout the park were various rides that you had to go through to get stamps on a card, and once you had all the stamps you could challenge the gym leader. Most of the rides would be fairly normal fare, but a few would have a Gym Trainer involved, and it'd be turned into a gimmick-battle of sorts. For example, one could be a time-battle in a ferris wheel car, while another could be something like a Roller Coaster race, where you and your pokemon had to manipulate various controls to make your car go faster and make the Gym Trainer's car slow down. It was an interesting idea, and thanks to the recent blog posts on Gym Design, I imagine that when I finally get to do it I can make the encounter even more interesting.

^That sounds weirdly familiar. I think it might have happened in Yugioh ZEXAL before. I definitely know they had a roller coaster race to manipulate both player's tracks.

If so, it's purely coincidental. I only watched some of the original Yugioh series, up to about the end of the Battle Kingdom arc or whatever.

In the manga at least, there was a theme park where all the mascots turned out to be duelists.

^That is not quite the same thing, but I remember that too.

@Dark_Star: That being coincidental doesn't surprise me. It's not that tricky of an idea to think up; I'm sure many people did that before ZEXAL did. I just found the resemblance slightly uncanny.

I must admit I'm absolutely horrendous at making gym challenges, but this blog post has inspired me to try again at least.
