I am trying to figure out how to make a TEST lvl 1 character, just to test this out to make sure I understand everything before I begin DMing for the first time Ever. I have read a lot about the character creation, including the helpful green boxes, and most of them make sense. I want to have my Players and thier Pokemon start at Lvl 5, So I need to figure out how many points they will need to distribute properly to start. I'm having a hard time with Skills, Edges, and Feats and distributing them on the TEST character sheet. Are skills the same as Edges and/or feats? If skills are separate, how many skills are you granted at lvl 1, and where do they go on the character sheet? I know for Edges and Feats you are granted 3 of each at start up, but I didn't know if skills were a separate thing, or whats going on with that. Also for the body mind and spirit, I understand its sort of based on how you want your character to be and the points you get for the group is ranged between 0-6. When starting players get 5 points, so does this mean they start at Zero and get 5 points between all three stats (Body, mind, Spirit). Example: Body is 3, Mind is 1, Spirit is 1? Or is it 5 points for Each? Example: Body 5, Mind 5, spirit 5 Or Do they get 5 points to distribute to each of the things(skills?) below the stats like Athletics? Example: Acrobatics is 3 Athletics is 1 Combat 1 Intimidate 0 Stealth 0 Survival 0 All totaling 5. Or am I not understanding any of this right at all? The idea for the Test Character is to be a Hatcher/Breeder, and eventually Pokemon Rider. I haven't worked out any kind of story for her yet, but I'm not worried about it for now. I just need help with getting things right for the character creation and being able to get my players started. Please help!

Also how can I track this to know when I get a reply? Will it just send me a message, or do I need to come back to this thread continuously to see if anyone has posted? |

Skills are gained in two ways. The first is through your background. You'll notice a list of sample backgrounds in the book and a description on how to make your own. All skills start as "Untrained" (Rank 2). Your background will raise and/or lower skills. If a background inhibits a skill it lowers it to "Pathetic" (Rank 1) and if it boosts a skill it raises it to "Novice" (Rank 3). The other way to raise skills is with edges. You'll see a few edges "Basic skills", "Adept skills", "Expert Skills", and "Master skills" each with their own prerequisites. At level 1 you can take the Basic Skills to raise a skill from Untrained (Rank 2) to Novice (Rank 3). At level 2 you are allowed to get "Adept Skills" which raises a skill from Novice (rank 3) to Adept (Rank 4). At level 6 you get the option to take Expert Skills (Rank 4 to Rank 5) and at level 12 you meet prereqs for Master (rank 5 to Rank 6). For Body/Mind/Spirit all start at 0/0/0 and you can raise them up to 6 and lower them (up to -2 if I recall right, but might be wrong there). They must add up to a total of +5 IE: Body: 3 Mind 3 Spirit: -1 Your example of Body: 3, Mind: 1, Spirit: 1 is correct. --------- Edit: Adding stuff while looking at test sheet. You will want to put the numeric number in the HP spot for stats. Hit Points is the calculated Health, but HP is the number for the base (IE: starts at 10). So if I calculated right you should have HP: 13 in that box, but Hit Points: 45 (as you have written). Skills are super messed up, but I explained that. Pathetic (Rank 1) (1d6) Untrained (Rank 2) (2d6) <-Default without background or edges Novice (Rank 3) (3d6) Adept (Rank 4) (4d6) <-Not possible till level 2) Expert (Rank 5) (5d6) <-Not possible till level 6) Master (Rank 6) (6d6) <-Not Possible till level 12 Body/Mind/Spirit can't all be +5 (Explained above, they total up to +5) Mounted Prowess, Breeder, and Elemental Connection are all Edges and should be in the Edge section, not the Hatcher Class section. Movement Capabilities always round down. (IE: 4.5 Overland is Overland 4) If you look on second page of the sheet you'll see under character creation a section for "Background name" "+Skills" "-Skills" this is what I was talking about for the skills. However, all skills are 2d6 (rank 2) (untrained) by default. There is no 0 in a skill Edited by Major, Dec 18 2014, 01:12 AM.

Sadly I lack a level 1 character to show an example for, but here is a skills example. Let's say I made a custom background with the following Boosts: Focus, Survival, Athletics Inhibits: Stealth, Charm, Education: Science And then I chose Body: 3, Mind: 0, Spirit: 2 My skills at level 1 (without edges) would be: Body: Great (+3) Acrobatics: Untrained (2) Athletics: Novice (3) +2 Combat: Untrained (2) Intimidate: Untrained (2) Stealth: Pathetic (1) Survival: Novice (3) Mind: Average (+0) Guile: Untrained (2) Perception: Untrained (2) Edu (General): Untrained (2) Edu (Medicine): Untrained (2) Edu (Petrology): Untrained (2) Edu (Pokemon): Untrained (2) Edu (Occult): Untrained (2) Edu (Science): Pathetic (1) Edu (Technology): Untrained (2) Spirit: Fair (+2) Charm: Pathetic (1) Command: Untrained (2) Focus: Novice (3) Intuition: Untrained (2) So if I was asked to roll Intuition it'd be 2d6+2, but Focus would be 3d6+2, etc. However, if I wanted to raise my Intuition, I could spend one of my three edges to buy "Basic Skill (Intuition)" which would raise it from Untrained to Novice (thus 2d6 to 3d6) |

Oh my goodness! Thank you. I was so confused but I think that I understand now. My bf also helped to kinda explain a little for me to understand better, since he has more experience with dming than I do. I think I got it now and will be fixing the sheet tonight. Thanks again!! |

Never mind, got most of what I needed, after searching, on to my new tablet. Weird getting used to it but I think I can make it work. However, I want to make a custom background but I don't know what to put in it. I want her to be a breeder and a rider so I don't know what stats would work under a background to fit. She is going to be kind, motherly and yet physically fit enough to be a rider, possibly a battle rider even, but can be super intimidating if one of her babies/friends gets hurt. Any suggestions? I made a list of things I would like to have her use/do: Mounted prowess: Novice acrobatics or athletics Beast master: Novice intimidate Intimidating presence: Novice intimidate Medic training: Novice medical education Breeder: novice Pokemon education Basic cooking: novice intuition Edit: I managed to create my own. Called motherly mayhem: Rank up: pkmn ed.,intuition, acrobatics, intimidate, focus, and medicine ed. Rank down: guile, occult, stealth, technology, general ed. Sound good? well the big advantage to background is to get the skills you need for your class. So get as much as you can with backgrounds to save your edges.

OK I've tinkered a lot, should have gone to bed hours ago, but I'm obsessing. Lol Made a mostly complete character I think. I just have to figure out how to post it...its being stubborn about saving. |
