GM Tips, I could use them; Y'know, player wrangling and such.

Beware of Eevee's. Players will start breeding them like rabbits. Everyone wants one.

Not necessarily a bad thing, but if you do give an Eevee, try not to make it be only one. It has a high probability of leaving people feeling bad if they don't get one.

I actually did give an Eevee, but only because we have a Hatcher. And said Eevee is male, now named Abraham, so everyone will get one eventually. Sort of an extended project for Hatcher. I was hesitant at first, but I do really like the idea of having Eevee toward the beginning of the game where it can be incorporated into your core guys, and it can take whatever path that circumstances dictate is best. My players are smart enough to not evolve until they know for sure what they want, and the <25% chance of breeding another one should keep from creating a steady stream of them.

Zen Mankey went over well, though they were disturbed at its lack of fury. I really wish I'd rolled a different kind of shiny, Fighting/Psychic would have been great. Ahwell, Type Shift is mechanically easy to access, so I'll likely have them complete a task with a guru on a faraway mountain, wherein Zen Mankey attains enlightenment and becomes Fighting/Psychic.

I gave one of my players an Eevee as his starter as well, though he ended up turning into a homebrew ghost-typed eeveelution called Graveon due to special circumstances. None of the other players actually expressed any real interest in either having the team Medic breed more, or getting one for themselves. It all depends on your players.

It's true. The fact that you can fit one on just about any team means that unless they just don't want the little fox-cats for flavor reasons, there's no reason to not grab one just-in-case. Especially since type-shifting and other "special circumstances", as you put it, exist in this system, an Eevee can be perfect for anyone.

I suppose you could also not want one because you enjoy the challenge of making something fit with more work, that's also legitimate.

But my players' first reaction was "*GASP* 'Hatcher! Can you breed one for each of us?' 'Can and will!'"

I put up a bit of fuss earlier about repeats on teams, but I'm looking forward to four or five Eeveelutions, all siblings, fighting alongside each other. Good Pokemon RP opportunity for me.

Oh yeah, speaking of difficult-to-handle starters. My Aura Guardian started with, what else, Riolu. And apparently it evolves at Loyalty 3? I've taken it upon myself to evolve his Riolu at exactly Narrative Significance o'clock, but are they supposed to be that easy to evolve?

Riolu is on of those pokemon that depends entirely on the GM's discretion to evolve, much like finding fossils or evolution stones are pretty much entirely up to the GM, (barring someone taking the Researcher tree that allows them to craft said stones).

mentor can also evolve eevee into what ever type they like as they ignore the requirement for stones and items. they can also evolve riolu too with inspired growth. an eevee ring formed in one game I played where they were simply passed from trainer to trainer until they were all supercharged

Yeah, I noticed that. I wouldn't have given an Eevee if anyone was running a Charm Mentor. Ours is Intution/Pokecation.
