Forgive me if I missed it, but as far as I know there is no action that characters can take if they don't want to hurt an opponent and they would simply like to be able to protect themselves from attacks. If such a thing doesn't exist, my proposition is that any character should be able to do the following as a Standard Action: Defend Until the beginning of your next turn, you get +5 Damage Reduction and +1 Evasion. Is this fair? Should this be allowed? Edited by rlrichey, Dec 25 2014, 11:52 AM.

It's not a BAD idea, though personally I think it's being done in a bad way. Mostly because there seems to be no penalty for a Defend action. |

It costs a whole Standard Action and it doesn't hurt anyone or have lasting effects, for starters. Would you add any further penalties? |

You want a Struggle version of Defence Curl? As Defence Curl and Withdraw give 10 and 15 DR respectively, also provide Crit Immunity, and are also At-Will, I guess there's no situation where this would outshine either of them so there's probably not much wrong with your suggestion. If anything it might be too weak, but it's probably best to put it closer to underpowered than overpowered given that you are giving this action to everything in the game and it's more of a "Fluff" action than a combat action. +3 Evasion might be more of a problem, you might want to change it to +1 (you could probably get away with the DR being 5 to compensate), as even feats and held items usually don't grant you more than +2 to your evasion, and they are only active in specific circumstances. Double Team only grants +2 Evasion, and that's a coat with Scene frequency. Still I can see the use of this action, it would make sense for situations like where your trainer has no ranged attacks and is being attacked by birds, for example. Sticking your hands in front of your face isn't an effective defence but it's better than nothing. Edited by Jacquerel, Nov 14 2014, 08:36 AM.

Thanks, I like that. I'll try 5DR and 1 Evasion in my game and see how it goes. |

As a reminder, shields can be Readied as a Standard, which makes them quite a bit stronger (10/15 DR and +4/+6 Evade respectively). Bumping up a generic Total Defense action to +2 Evade would be totally fine. |
