So, over at the "Potential PTA Revision" I touched on this, and I might try tackling it on my own, but first, let's see if anyone else has looked at this issue and/or can offer feedback. A big part of what prompted this is that Strength, for trainers, is quite an underutilized stat in the Vanilla version; still more when it's been removed from the "Ace Trainer", and we were trying to come up more ways to make it useful. I thus arrived at this, but in retrospect, it seems like a revision that should be made even with regard to the Pokemon. Basically, I'm talking about moves that propel a target in a direction, like Mega Kick and Circle Throw. Although some have Strength prerequisites, it bothers me that they have a one-size-fits-all policy for every attacker and target. In other words, a Meditite can kick a Snorlax the same distance that a Machamp can kick a Ratata. That mechanic seems, if not broken, at least fudged against the priority of heightened Strength, which is problematic when some Pokemon and classes are built around Strength. So it seems to me that it ought to be supplanted by an equation that adds the attacker's Strength and subtracts the target's Weight, but the problem as I see it is conversion--how do we take the move's distance rank in the core rules and get a new rank we can use for a revised system? Any help would be appreciated, and credited. |
