The thief nearly transformed her dreamy smile into a malicious smirk as once again the cogs in her brain began to spin. Today was all too convenient! How quickly her luck had turned around! From nearly dead to filthy rich in less than half a day! Victoria managed to stay in her bubbly mood (not too hard a feat, to be honest. She was certain she couldn't feign unhappiness at this point) while she mentally ran through the lie she would tell. "No, no, nothing like that! My boyfriend just proposed to me!" she gushed, nearly flailing about in excitement. Real excitement at that, especially if he bought the Tauros crap she was peddling. "His father just granted him a large sum, so he bought a small ship and he's sailing us out to the Orange Islands today! Isn't it so exciting?" Victoria managed a dreamy sigh, staring off into nowhere in particular. "We'll stay in his father's winter home, all to ourselves, and he said he's going to go shopping with me for a ring as soon as we get there so I get to pick out what I like!" Victoria kept up her excitement, faking being breathless and awestruck from the experience. She leaned her elbows on the counter and bent one of her legs up at the knee cutely, the toe of her boot grinding into the ground from her back leg. "He's down by the docks right now getting the ship ready, so he sent me here to get everything we need. The ship's pretty new, and I haven't been sailing before, so I'm not sure what to get. I know we'll need a map, but... what else should I buy for m- my fiance!" Victoria giggled after the words rolled off her tongue, as if she had been waiting her entire lifetime to say them. Rube was eating it up, too. Sucker. She could tell from that goofy grin on his face. Victoria shared a laugh with him. He was laughing from her enthusiasm, so happy for her, she'd bet. She was laughing at the stupid man in front of her. Hook. Line. Aaaaaand... Sinker. |

The shop keeper looks at and smiles and laughs. "Ohh! Congratulations!! Well in that case let me help you out!" The shop keeper goes yells into the back of the shop and a machamp comes out. "Hey buddy go get 4 barrels of fresh water, 2 gallons of oil, 4 lamps, an extra 25 feet of sail, 2 bundles of rope. Hmmm what else...oh I know! Grab 5 lbs of potatoes, 10 lbs of hard tack, 4 lbs of carrots, 6 lbs of salted beef, a pot, paper, ink, and get the lovely lady 4 talonflame quills. That there should get you there just fine little lady!" He looks at her smiling "Let's call it 673 for everything!" |

"Oh thank you! Thank you so very much!" Vicky squealed, twisting her sense of victory into gratefulness and bowing respectfully. Seriously, everyone in this town was as sharp as a Solosis and twice as transparent. She simply played with her hair as she waited for the Pokemon to return with her ill-gotten goods. If she could fool everyone else in this Magmos this easily, it wouldn't be nearly so bad trapped on a boring island. Her eyes lit up when the Machoke returned hauling a very large sack over one arm and several barrels in another, precariously balanced and upheld with awesome strength. At the shopkeep's suggested price, Victoria giggled again. It was practically nothing. Peanuts! With her newly found wealth, she could probably buy this island, but why would she want to? All the Orange Islands sounded like a much better plan anyway! "No trouble at all, I'm very grateful! Here you are~!" she sang, clinking golden, silver, and bronze coins into the man's hand. She'd counted them out carefully: $673 exactly for the lot. While tempted to dupe him out of more coins, Vicky showed restraint by quitting while she was ahead. As she turned to leave, she spoke to the man once more. "If you don't mind, could your Pokemon wait right here? I still have more places to visit before I go. I'll return on my way to the pier or I'll send my fiance for the goods, okay?" And with that, she left to find her next con and earn some more free loot while securing supplies for the escape from this backwater port town. Spoiler: click to toggle

The shopkeeper looks at her and smiles. "Not at all dear! And here a wedding present for you." He hands here a portable grower with an enigma berry plant growing inside of it. "Its an enigma berry! I got a few seeds from a friend way overseas when I was young and have been growing a few ever since!" He laughs and sets its down on the counter. "Don't worry old machamp will be here waiting for you." Vicky leaves and walks brisky up the the street to the produce shop. Inside the shop is fruit and other sundrys hanging along the walls and from the ceiling. She is created by an old lady. "Welcome young lady how may I help you?" |

Victoria felt elated as she left the general store, stuffing her portable grower into her rucksack. Too easy, it was all too easy! Maybe she was a little too quick to give up on Magmos, seems everyone was rather dull around here... On second that, that would be a perfect reason to give up on Magmos. Vicky didn't feel like palling around country bumpkins the rest of her life. And the flying beast that threatened to scorch up the little port city. That was a big bullet point when considering leaving Cinnabar. As she wound up the busy street, Victoria halted before a produce venue. Taking a moment to compose herself, she wiped the smile off of her face (as difficult as that was) and stormed into the store with powerful strides. The old woman behind the counter greeted her well enough, but Vicky would not break her facade. She narrowed her eyes at the woman, a plot brewing in her brain. "Apricorns! I need to know if you have them!" she stated urgently and powerfully, planting a hand strongly on the countertop. |

The woman regards her with a smile. "I'm sorry but the shipment that I was suppose to receive never arrived. So unfortunately no I have none at the current moment. Is there anything else you were looking for?" |

"Blast...!" the thief growled. She was really expecting the shop to carry apricorns, but it looked as if her luck would have to run out some time. Her lament was genuine, of course. She had just composed the perfect lie for naught. Slyness wasted, Victoria tore herself away from the counter. "No. No there's... nothing else that I need," she grumbled, sounding agitated and disappointed. With the same powerful steps, the blonde young woman loped out of the store. Once outdoors, she sighed a deep sigh. That would teach her to be avaricious, it would. Victoria looked up the road once more, and next door happened to be a baker and butchery. While they did have a decent selection of food, she didn't know if it would be enough to feed three and Pokemon for however long they were at sea. That, and fresh bread and meat tasted leagues better than jerky and hardtack. Victoria wearily shuffled into the baker's/butchery shop, feeling a little too defeated to attempt to swindle them out of any of their goods. |

15? No, perhaps too much. Half that wasn't good, either. 10. 10 was a good round number. 10 loaves of bread should hold them for a decent while. Le'see... now that's half a loaf a day for the each of them, and the three of them makes a loaf and a half per day. Out of 10 that would last... Maybe a week if they rationed? It didn't add up evenly. 12. 12 sounded better now that she thought of it. But what of meat? What should she get? Not enough to spoil, and she didn't want it cured, so... it could only last for around two days maximum? She wouldn't eat that much, but what would the boys eat? A pound each, or more than that? She could afford to purchase more if she managed to make a hearty stew and keep that, eating leftovers over the next few days, and the meat wouldn't spoil that way. Poultry was out, less good for stew. Beef or pork? ...Pork. Fat and salty, it would keep them on the voyage. Yes, yes that was what she would get. 12 loaves of bread and five pounds of pork. Victoria ran the numbers through her head, slightly jealous of the boys guarding the gold. Neither of them were given the burden of thinking this stuff through, and it was getting to be taxing. In fact... blast it all, they could cook tonight. If she were busting her hump shopping for rations and navigating and picking locks and doing all the man's work, then they could do the woman's work and take to the kitchen. But she'd make sure they carried the heavy gear on deck anyways. A lady shouldn't be sweating over such trifles, they should learn to show some chivalry. Besides, she was the weakest of them anyway. It made little sense to have her do any of the lifting. She was a much better supervisor anyhow. Vicky took a deep breath as she carefully opened the door to the bakery, yet haphazardly allowing the door to slam behind her. "Well hello there beautiful and welcome to my bakery. I'm sure I can help you with any of your needs." The thief glided her weary eyes over to the source of the voice, and she stalled for a moment. Just as her beating heart had. Standing behind the counter was a tall, dark, handsome local of long blonde hair nearly the same shade as she, and tan to match. Tough tattoos lined his sculpted arms jutting out like tree trunks from his sleeveless vest. A soft smile graced his lips, a perfect fit for his gentle voice. Cool grey eyes looked her up and down from above his chiseled visage, making her feel a little self-conscious, and she blushed a little and crossed one arm over her body to hold her other forearm. He looked only a little older than she was, probably almost 20 if that. "O-oh. Um, hey..." she murmured shyly, turning her gaze from his. Ordinarily Victoria wasn't this shy around men, especially when she was doing the beguiling, but it was moments like these that made her feel uncomfortable. As a conwoman, Vicky was an actress, able to lie and behave convincingly in a wide range of manners to get what she wanted. But that was it: an act. When she actually felt an attraction to someone she felt painfully bashful. It was in her nature, of course, to be guarded of herself lest she become hurt as she often did over and over and over again as a little girl. And thus the silver-tongued charmer acted as a meek and timid Bunneary when someone set her heart beating. Victoria made a show of browsing the bread, hesitant to approach the hunky baker, afraid of how she would sound or what she would say. What would she bring up...? Oh, right, yes! The bread and pork she needed! How much was it again? It was... Uhh... Victoria caught herself staring in the corner of her eye and paused to close her eyes and take a deep breath. C'mon... C'mon, you can do this... It's just another boy... You've been yelling at those all day, why is this any different...? Mouth dry, chest heaving, the sweat beginning to grace her brow and blood beating like a drum in her ears, Victoria cautiously approached the counter. It helped little that she happened to be the only other patron in the store at the time. "H-Hey- *ahem* ...Hey..." she attempted to greet, her voice catching in her throat and cracking ungracefully. She flitted her eyes away, but they were drawn to his calm grey ones. Smooth, tranquil, like resting ash... "I..." she started, voice starting to catch again, "I... Uh... I-I forgot what I was going to ask for..." she admitted, blushing slightly and shielding her rosy face from him with one of her hands. Spoiler: click to toggle

The baker smiles at you and brushes a strand of hair behind your ear. "Well now beautiful, why not tell me what you are doing and I'll see what I can do for you." He looks at her and winks. |
