Creator has trouble with Hazards because "they have no counter, but Double Team is TOTALLY counterable gaiz" Tell me how many Pokemon can reliably take out... "All Pokémon who can learn TMs can learn Double Team except Unown, Wobbuffet, Wynaut, Kricketot, Burmy, Tynamo, and Spewpa" So in short everything someone would consider using in a competitive scene except for Wobbuffet. Good luck finding a team with 3 or more Pokemon which can reliably overcome each and every Pokemon in the Pokedex. Here's a hint: they don't exist. And if you dedicate your entire team, or heck, even as few as two members of your team, to countering Evasion, congratulations, your team as a whole is now presumably performing at a substandard level than what it would normally be capable of if you didn't have to worry about Evasion abuse at all, in general (obviously a few Pokemon like Machamp and Mega Pidgeot can still handle Evasion abusers without sacrificing offensive power, but now we're saying everyone has to run Machamp and/or Mega Pidgeot. It's far easier to say "yeah no Evasion Abuse"). Meanwhile there aren't nearly as many Hazard Setters out there, and they all have very reasonable and variable means of playing around them. Also the creator doesn't realize Smogon works on a vote-based community system based on ladder rankings for most bans besides Quickbans like Gengarite and Kangaskhanite, which were blatantly broken. The Smogon community itself doesn't even always agree on the bans, Aegislash was HIGHLY controversial, and I think Mawilite and Greninja were too. Also there are over 120 OU Viable Pokemon right now (the vast majority of BL2 and above Pokemon are more than OU viable, and a fair few RU Pokemon, that's not even counting alternate forms or Megas), that's more than just 20, last I math'd. |

You're making a whole lot of assumptions there, sir, aren't you? |

If it was made in a joking attempt or a baiting attempt, well then I guess I fell for it. Whoops. |

An optimizer too married to their medium likely just needs some time and guidance to figure out the new one. The whole idea behind shifting mediums is to get new experiences and new challenges (and find new ways to unlock the power that's inside) - when it's a whole new world I'm sure there's temptation to stick to the familiar. (enough earworms yet?) There's a reason I did my first Nuzlocke in Johto rather than Sinnoh or Unova.

I'm fine with their own competitive strategy, and they can do whatever they want with it, but I highly dislike the attitude of their Create-a-Pokemon project, which I find insufferably elitist. And that dislike thus extends to the community as a whole. |

Wait, Griffin. Why? Please expand on why you find it elitist. People make their own pokemon up all the time, right? |

Smogon's CAP products are intentionally designed to be "competitively viable" in the "OU format", which is what I believe Gray was referring to. If you'll notice, a lot of them have high BSTs and generally "optimized" movepools. |

Ah, well that would certainly make sense and with that, I can see where they would come off as elitist. |

I can kind of see where it comes off as elitist, but the CAP ladder is entirely based around the OU ladder with some more Pokemon tossed in, using the same rules and banlist and everything. Realistically you can't expect an entry to get much notice if it's submitted and would not do well in the normal OU game, it's not really ELITIST so much as it is LOGICAL, the same way you really shouldn't expect to bring something akin to a Pikachu into OU and have it be up to snuff with the monsters that run around there. I really fail to see the problem here. I also think that disliking one small section of Smogon, and one not many people in their community even bother with at that, shouldn't really be used to judge the community as a whole... Without taking a side here, I should note that "herein lies the problem". I'm sure you can see what I mean by that. |
