Posting on behalf of argent, welcome to the Roll Thread! In this thread the players will make rolls for any skill check or other roll they are going for outside of combat. This is so a player can write the roll as it happens in the IC thread instead of writing that they're going to do something, then rolling, then what that something made them do. Which is pretty awkward. The player will instead announce a roll and what they're rolling for in the Roll Thread, and the GM (argent) will tell them whether they succeeded or failed and what happened because of the roll. Depending on the situation, the player or the GM will post the result. Remember to mention the modifiers you are applying. The GM might also give you additional modifiers. Two examples: CL(Roll Thread): I want to roll General Education to find out what I know about this town. argent(Roll Thread): Alright, go ahead. CL(Roll Thread): (1st roll below) argent(Roll Thread): Okay, you know this this and that. CL(In Character): I've heard of this place before. This is true, and this is also what I know. Not to mention that. CL(Roll Thread): I roll Stealth to slip by the guard unnoticed. argent(Roll Thread): Okay, but you take a -2 penalty because of the guards have already been put on alert once. CL(Roll Thread): (2nd roll below) -2 because of alert guards. argent(Roll Thread): Too bad, you fail. He sees you. argent(In Character): CL tries to slip by the guard, but he hears him. "Hey, what are you doing here!?" he shouts. Like that. When you make the roll in the Roll Thread, you can have a link in your IC post to the post you made in the Roll Thread for validity. I... don't see the point in this subthread. I doesn't change anything as you still have to write a first post without results and then wait for the DM (or second player) to tell you if your roll succeeded before you can write what happens in a second post. If anything it seems to be more work always jumping back and forth between threads to check the rolls. Let's use your two examples: Example 1: Knowledge check. Post1 (IC): Kerrigan, being unfamiliar with this town wonders if she remembers hearing anything about it. *rolls Edu: General* DM's reply (IC): *if roll was high enough* Kerrigan indeed heard a rumor about... / *if too low* Kerrigan hasn't heard of anything important. Example 2: Sneaking Post1 (IC): Victoria tries to sneak past the guards in order to infiltrate the castle *rolls Stealth* DM's reply (IC): *mentally substracts 2, or simply increases the DC by 2 which makes more sense* *still success* Even though the guards were on alert, the quick rogue manages to enter the castle without anyone else noticing. / *too low* The guards already being on alert, spot Victoria as she tries to sneak in and run after her. As you can see it requires even less posts and you save the time of jumping between threads on top of that. In the first example, the player doesn't even have to reply, assuming that we always share our info in Education checks even if we don't repeat the DM to avoid simply spamming with copy paste posts. In the second the player can immediately continue after the DM's reply. Where does she go next? Or in case combat started and its her turn, what her actions will be. |

True, I'll give you that it's more jumping between threads, but it's potentially less clutter in the IC (which is kind of a huge screaming mess anyway). I'll give you my post for example. I happened to make more posts as a whole, but a lot of those were quick "Hey, can I do this?" posts in the Roll Thread, which if we had an OOC at the time they would've gone somewhere like there. I then proceeded to resolve the action in a single IC post. Personally, I think it looks cleaner, but if you don't like it bring it up to argent in the OOC, Ideas Thread, or PM or something. It's kind of a test concept anyway and he might think your way's better. Anyway, rolling Stealth! In this action, Vicky completely removes the rock from play, sliding it off the table and into her pocket. Kerrigan will choose wrong either way, but if her Perception score is higher she will know why that was. So my question: How much wagered? Default is $10. [result]14&4:6:4,3d6,0,14&3d6+0[/result] |

True, I guess like we will have to try and see how it evolves. Looks like you won. Yeah I simply wanted to wager a coin, so a small amount like $10 sounds about right. |
