Overview of Kadia: The Kadia Region is known for its lush greenery, gorgeous mountain ranges, and island dotted coasts. Nature lovers consider it paradise, and routes are frequently packed with hikers, fishermen, naturalists, explorers, and Pokemon collectors. However, Kadia is not the land of luddites. Many of its cities are hubs of technology and industry, trading frequently with Kanto in the West and Unova in the East. The free spiritedness of the surrounding nature rubs off even on the inhabitants of cities. Artists, musicians, researchers, and tinkerers enjoy the liberated atmosphere, but it can also draw drug enthusiasts, occultists, and other… interesting individuals. The NanoKlink Corporation Headquarters and many of its satellite facilities are located across Kadia, and the people gobble up the new technologies and gadgets produced by the company. Well, most people. Team Eco has become a growing threat in the region, with their activities ranging from inconvenient protests to straight out eco terrorism. While the average inhabitant of Kadia respects the environment and treats Pokemon well (especially compared to other regions of the world), Team Eco does not think these values are progressive enough. Despite this recent increase in Team activity, Kadia is for the most part a safe place where people partake in Pokemon battles for sport, watch Pokemon contests and contests, and simply enjoy the great outdoors. Geography of Kadia ![]() Kadia is home to a number of different climates. The area east of the Kadian Mountain Range is mostly farmland and plains. West of the mountain range, the land is heavily forested. The northern part of Kadia has mild temperatures and is frequently rainy and overcast, or even snowy if you head far enough north. There are many cities and towns located on the water, though only the southernmost cities have warm enough weather to support traditional beaches. Islands dot the coast, and people frequently travel there by boat or Pokemon. Southeastern Kadia is home to the large Nevi desert. Culture Like other regions in the world, the Kadia Pokemon League governs the region. Larger towns have Pokemon Gyms that serve a couple of purposes. The main purpose of the Gym is entertainment - people can come challenge a Gym Leader, or simply watch a Gym fight for fun. But Gym Leaders and their apprentices also function as an elite "police" force of sorts, and it is their duty to make sure the town functions smoothly and is not interrupted by any nefarious activity. Larger cities will also have a regular police force, but most towns rely on trainers to serve vigilante justice. The League is run by the Elite Four, with each trainer looking over a subregion of Kadia, and is headed by the current League Champion. The League sets rules for battles, aka no punching your opponent in the face like some honorless street Rattata. Many trainers try to win all 8 gym badges and defeat the Elite Four, which is a massive badge of honor and pride. Pokemon battling and capturing is seen as completely normal - Pokemon are usually inclined to share a bond with a trainer, assuming the trainer treats them well. Many people also participate in Pokemon Contests or use Pokemon for whatever their hobby happens to be. Despite this general friend/pet relationship, consuming "lower" Pokemon for food is widely viewed as normal behavior. Technology Kadia's technology level is cutting edge, but not science fiction. If the tech exists in our world, you can probably find it in Kadia. There are two notable exceptions: 1. Pokemon Technology: Pokemon can be converted to energy and stored in Pokeballs. Trainers can only carry 6 Pokemon with them at a given time, since any more than that is difficult to care for. Additional Pokemon are stored as energy in a personal PC, where they're put in a stasis of sorts in a virtual ecosystem that caters to their every desire, so they don't become too lonely or bored. Technical Machines (TMs) resemble microSD cards and can be inserted into a Pokeball to teach it a new move. Trainers who are part of the League are given a Pokedex that can identify and catalog Pokemon and provide some basic information. 2. Weapons: Because Pokemon are the defensive (and sometimes offensive) tool of choice, firearms do not exist in Kadia. No, they're not banned - no one ever conceived of inventing guns when you could just have a Charizard roast your enemy instead. Travelers still have to worry about unscrupulous individuals using knives, bats, or perhaps specialized gadgets, but Pokemon are truly the popular weapon of choice. Your Journey Begins You begin your journey in Pokane, a small town in Kadia’s Northeastern breadbasket, fairly isolated from the rest of Kadia by the looming Kadian Mountain Range. It is home to the region’s Pokemon Laboratory (thanks to the private nature of Professor Fir, the world’s leading Pokemon Energy researcher), a train station connecting Kadia to the East, a small Pokemon gym, a Pokemon Center with its attached PokeMart, and a number of farms and berry fields that dot the landscape with bright color. Professor Fir is running a promotion where five trainers can qualify to alpha test his cutting edge Pokedex, which promises more features and functionality than another other Pokedex in the world.
