I run a game that is meant to be somewhat realistic, e.g. no earthquake on water etc. This might not be an important fact, but it's note worthy. Note also that this is only gen 1-4 pokémon. My group is really playing their characters. There is a 10 years old girl being childish, a former researcher trying to guard her and a rouge just tagging along. My problem is that the girl really just does whatever she wants while the rouge wants to get ghost pokémon to ease his illegal tasks. Because the rouge can't steer the group, I have a hard time getting the girl to a scary place, like a graveyard. Do you have any tips for a ghost encounter? I have a few ideas, but no really good ones. A simple trade/steal/purchase via NPC, a drifloon just drifting by over the road (along with some hoppips) and evolving a nincada (which isn't caught yet). He has one duskull already and has prepared his character for unruly pokémon, as ghosts often are. (Ideas for iron types would be nice as well, but I haven't thought much about that yet) |

Have the ghosts come to them. Maybe they encounter a lone fiddler In a foggy forest, and spookie stuff starts to occur. Maybe a hotel they are staying in is haunted (the people at the front desk, of course, neglected to inform the PCs of this.). Maybe the ghosts don't really have to manifest near places associated with death at all and just lurk around urban environments to feed off dreams. Really depends on the direction you want to take it, but what would help is knowing how you are envisioning ghosts. Literal spirits of the deceased, just memories of the dead taken form, more animistic spirits...what are they? What makes them by default Unruly? |

I go by the games' pokédexes a lot. The pokédex often states stuff about unrulyness. I envision gastly to be a spirit of a dead manifesting in thick poison gas. Shuppets are manifestations of deceased that feel as if they've been wronged. Duskulls are spirits that have escaped the spirit world. "It was formed by uniting 108 spirits. It has been bound to the Odd Keystone to keep it from doing any mischief." - pokédex HG/SS for spiritomb. Misdreavus is the spirit of someone who died alone and afraid, making it a ghost that feeds on fear. A haunted hotel can be a place that has shuppets feeding on negative emotions. A lone fiddler can be a mismagius using hallucinating chants to attract people to feed on. It could have a few misdreavus as company. Thanks! I still need ideas, since I'm not sure what the players will do. Back-up plans are always good. Edited by Zubat, Jun 9 2014, 09:37 AM.

Someone I know made this when cataloguing the dex entries of Ghost Pokemon and their relation to killing peeps and other untoward behavior. If you like adhering to in-game dex entries, this may be an interesting idea tool for you. |

DNA, that is what I have done too. Though I only used basic pokémon - and mismagius - from the first 4 generations and I didn't colour code them and put them in numeric order. I am not agreeing with the sableye text. It eats rock and gemstones, not spirits. The eyes and spirit part is only because of fear of the dark among humans, at least that's how I understand it. I have added the list as a picture in my PTT folder. It will probably be handy

To be fair, look at Sableye's Ruby entry:
I understand "thought to steal" isn't the same thing as "steal", though it wasn't drawn out of thin air. |

Given how you described your party dynamics, it seems like having a drifloon (or several) try to kidnap the little girl might be a good way to get your rogue a chance to catch some ghost types while engaging your other players. |

Shuppet live under the eaves of houses, so finding one of them shouldn't be hard. Many areas have Gastly flying around come nightfall in Gold and Silver. Plus there is always the lure of nice things at the top of that abandoned tower out in the middle of nowhere. |

Great idea, Marhatus! Esprit, I totally missed that. I went to Shuppet's bulbapedia page and [Ctrl+F] searched for "eave". It was in half of the pokédex entries and I missed it anyway Thanks!

Shuppet are also the spirit of abandoned toys. Maybe a Shuppet can haunt a doll, and the little girl can befriend it - or be taken in by it? I think there're a fair number of spooky stories that go like that... |
