Theme music is now mandatory

This part of the Pyramid looks starkly different from anything the explorers have seen before. The solid dark walls from before are now layered brick, which sparkle a metallic shade of gold.

It looks like a formal waiting room out of some big stone castle, with small tables and chairs set up, the kind one would see in a dollhouse. A large chandelier hangs from the ceiling, twin sets of stairs line the walls of the chamber, leading up to a small second story overhang of this tall room.

Aside from the big stone doors the explorers arrived in, there's wooden doors at the base of both sets of stairs, as well as a pair of red steel double-doors atop the overhang. A smaller door is also under the overhang, leading to a child's bedroom.

No living things currently occupy this room.

Almost like it had been waiting for those words, her stomach emitted a loud growl that did not match her small body. Her face pinked slightly, and she grabbed at the distraction of the sawk.

"This room was used for food storage." She tried to make it seem like that was her plan from the start. And then the sawk surrounded her. The girl couldn't help a big smile coming across her face. She was always so proud whenever pokemon showed off exactly how intelligent they were. The dino looked at them curiously. "Hi! What are you guys doing here? Is there anything I can do for you?"

Stefan shrugs and glances back at Krieger. His eyes were open, watching the Sawk. They had never had a problem with them before, but wild pokemon and 'civilized folk' alike could be unpredictable. Nor would it be the first time Merchant stirred up an otherwise passive group of pokemon.

If things started to go bad, it would get really ugly, really quickly. Krieger did not rise, nor did he take his eyes off the situation. Likewise, Stefan put a hand to Gram. He'd probably have to rely on Gram and Passat in an all-out brawl.

Merchant carefully palms Koffing's ball before climbing the stairs, just in case.

It would be a pity to blow up the girl, but if the Sawk got rowdy, he had to be ready.

Once he gets to the top of the stairs, he opens the set of doors.

The Sawk just stare at the girl. There's a hint of disbelief on their faces. Their actions don't seem aggressive. Soon enough, the Throh stomps in from the hallway, and sees the girl as well. He goes over, reaching into his sash(?), and presents her with a silver band, engraved with the words "AMY CHAN". It looks pristine and polished.

Merchant opens up the double doors with ease, dust flying from the handles. They're remarkably light for solid steel. It appears there's some turnstiles inside, with a slot... and a dark set of stairs downward. The turnstiles can easily be jumped over.

"Huh. . . ."

Seems there was further evidence for her story. The Sawk definitely knew her, and to be presenting gifts? She certainly wasn't normal. A low, brief rumble caught his attention, dragging it back to Krieger, who jerked his large, iron head towards the currently open doors. Merchant was on the move again, it seemed.

"Really? We're not even gonna talk about this?"

Glancing around, Stefan notes the layout of the room. There was the stone doors they entered from, the red doors Merchant was exploring, the remains of a small door, and two plain wooden doors, one of which was a pantry. It was either check out the door opposite the pantry (which was probably a broom closet or something) or follow Merchant up the stairs and down the more imposing path. Stefan clears his throat and tries to talk over the gaggle of Sawk.

"Listen, if you're down this low, I think you can take care of yourself. Still, if you want help getting back to the surface, it gets a little complicated between here and there, and things aren't going to be like what they were when you fell asleep. I suggest you come with us, or wait here until we come back. We're here to explore, and there's probably a lot more beyond those doors."

Shrugging, he recalls Krieger into his pokeball and takes off after Merchant.

"Hey Merchant! Hold up, don't go plunging into the dungeon without me!"

"What she is or isn't will need to be determined through testing, not through her words."

Merchant looks over the balcony at the girl surrounded by Sawk.

"You are beginning trainer, yes? Allow Merchant to run some cursory, noninvasive experiments and Merchant will supply you with fresh pokemon of your choice to outfit your team as well as supply you with information on the current time. Not to mention you will need to be monitored for distortion sickness. "

Merchant tosses a rolled parchment at the girl.

"This is the list of choices. Pick carefully."

Turning back to Ursus, he gestures to the door.

"Well then, Merchant will leave the choice to you. Bring the girl topside, or head in deeper. We will not be able to conceal our discovery for long, but it also may be good to head up."

Stefan shakes his head. That wasn't what he was saying but there was still a tough choice to make. Perhaps he didn't have to choose.

"Miss, would you come along with us as we explore what you have been sleeping on top of?"

The girl stares in childlike wonder at the Throh, and then at the band. For the moment, it is easy to forget that she is not ten-years-old. Amy throws her arms around the Throh, giving it a big hug. "Thank you!"

And then the Merchant broke the moment.

She let go of the pokemon and put on the band just in time to catch the roll of parchment. From all the way across the room. That throwing arm.

Non-invasive experiments couldn't hurt, could they? Amy didn't feel that she could say no without revealing more than she wanted to, and it would take a lot more than experiments to get her to talk... Adventure, exploration, answers? She sure got lucky with the first people to find her.

"That sounds like fun! Let's do it! I can see how much has changed! I mean, where that arbok came from certainly didn't use to be a cave." She addresses the robed man next. "Your proposition is interesting. I'll take a look at this list and give you an answer."

The girl attempts to extricate herself from the crowd of pokemon, recalling the icey dino as the other man did for his mon. "I will be back," she tells the sawk and throh. "Maybe we can have an interesting conversation? I am sure you all have questions.."

The Throh accepts the hug, and the gaggle of fighting mon wave her off, moving back to their base camp in the caves.

Merchant, seeing that the girl and Stefen were both in agreement to exploring deeper, points down the tunnel, sending Koffing ahead before walking down himself, walking through the turnstile.
