Theme Music is now mandatory One of the larger cities of the region, Saffron is the technological focal point of Kanto. Among the many smaller corporations and offices, the Silph Co. building stands tallest of all, right in the center of town, overshadowing the two gyms in its wake. While only one is of Pokemon League merit, both provide an equal challenge to daring competitors. There's also rumors of an black market of illicit technology, an underground Silicon Valley... Through field and mountain, the Magnet Train zips and zooms! Merchant has himself a comfortable seat at the front of the car, patiently waiting for the arrival. The sun's still rather high in the sky, and Saffron's still quite far off... plenty of time to kill, deals to be made. The room Merchant is in contains two seats facing each other, wide enough for Merchant to easily lay down on, as well as a curtain out to the main hallway. Not long after departure, a young woman comes along with a snack cart, pushing a small meal into his cabin: a few hearty Grumpig chops and a glass of Viridian's finest Red Gyarados, compliments of the conductor for all of first class! The waitress grins as she brings the meal, and lets Merchant know that it will be a few hours before they arrive in Saffron. |

Merchant takes the Red Gyarados, passing on the food. Ah, alcohol. Quite a few of his predecessors ran on the stuff. But he could enjoy a glass of wine. "What are the opportunities on this trip? To burn the time?" |

Merchant learns about the Bullet Train... and a lot of the more tourist-y things going on. Among the more mundane things - Pokemon bonding classes, catching baby's first Rattata - he learns that once per trip, the train holds a small battling-tournament on a car in the back, where passengers are randomly given Pokemon to use. First prize is a rare Dusk Stone! Other than that, the back side of the train also has a healing machine, a gaming car with a few slot machines, and two cars for battling. Otherwise... he can sleep or bug the other passengers. |

Hmm...a random tourny? That could do quite nicely. Especially if the rules were...'loose'. Merchant signs up for it, curious what kind of experience it might give. |

Merchant gets entered in the tournament, taking up the last of the four spots. From the bin, five balls are selected, and laid out on a cushion in front of him to pick. They all have stickers on them to identify types, but that's all he gets for hints. Ball one has a green sticker. Ball two has a cobalt sticker. Ball three has a white sticker. Ball four has a red sticker. Ball five has a grey sticker. |

Merchant gets the white-sticker and grey-sticker balls. Good for him! The other competitors, a young man, a little girl, and her (portly) mother, all pick two other balls from random selection. The battles begin, and Merchant is paired up to fight the mother. The two trainers take their place at the ends of the arena, and the jolly mother sends out her Pokemon first. Her ball has a purple sticker, and the Pokemon comes out in a flash... it's a hyperactive little frog. Croagunk! |

Merchant clicks his tongue. Croagunk huh. He pulls out the white ball and tosses it out. Here's hoping for Flying. |
