The sun is dipping in the sky, casting a grim shadow over the low-hanging foliage of Ecruteak. The goldmine of history is easily any researcher's field day, especially those who study the history of Johto, and to a lesser extent, those who dabble in cryptozoology. The tower and a half on the north edge of town both cast a gloomy silhouette over the houses and residents... oddly enough, they all seem rather cheerful. Everything seems to be run-of-the-mill here; Morty should be in his gym, and all other facilities seem to be in order. Ecruteak Shops

Stefan isn't surprised that Krieger's been hypnotized. It wouldn't be the first time. Time for some fancy footwork. He pulls an Awakening from his backpack, and using his Medic training, applies it in the heat of battle. Luckily, the Haunter had to move in closer to attack the reserved Skorupi. Stinger dashes in and positions himself on the far end of the battle, between Morty and Haunter. He attacks, lashing out at the Haunter with a modest Knock Off. Krieger then trundles up between the two enemy pokemon and uses Roar, creating an opening for his partner. Stinger's Knock Off on Haunter: [result]2&2,1d20,0,2&1d20[/result] vs AC 2. [result]19&3,1d6,16,19&1d6+16[/result] Physical Dark damage and Haunter's 'sharp thing' is dropped. Krieger shifts in between Drifloon and Haunter. He should now be adjacent to both enemy pokemon, and uses Roar! Burning an AP again [result]9&8,1d20,1,9&1d20+1[/result] vs 2. Stinger will then use Pursuit as an Interrupt on Haunter. [result]16&16,1d20,0,16&1d20[/result] vs AC 2 for [result]35&4:5:3,3d6,23,35&3d6+23[/result] physical dark damage. Stinger loses his next action though. Spoiler: click to toggle

This is The initial Knock Off misses Haunter... but the super combo hits him, hard. The ghost screeches loudly as it is recalled in the ball, to be replaced a flying robot! Golett! Morty crosses his arms. "That's alright, I suppose." Drifloon, now the fastest, Gust again on Stinger! [result]7&7,1d20,0,7&1d20[/result] [result]29&2:6,2d6,21,29&2d6+21[/result] The Golett gets aggressive, going to punch Krieger's face in! [result]17&17,1d20,0,17&1d20[/result] [result]41&6:3:2,3d6,30,41&3d6+30[/result] Ghost Physical (Can't miss) |

Stinger is just a bit too slow, and is staggered by the attack. Krieger tanks the punch and tries to finish off the drifloon with Iron Head. Accuracy with one more AP: [result]8&7,1d20,1,8&1d20+1[/result]. Flinch on 15. Physical steel damage of [result]51&1:8:4,3d12,38,51&3d12+38[/result]. |

Drifloon is hurt pretty bad; unfortunately, the balloon has a few tricks up its own sleeve. It instantly casts a dark spell on Krieger... he finds himself unable to remember what he just did. (Disable on Iron Head) Morty finds himself in a little bind, but he's not sweating yet. "Don't let them get the edge." (Constructive Criticism on Golett) The robot charges at Krieger, and stamps down to shatter the earth below him! Magnitude! [result]10&9,1d20,1,10&1d20+1[/result] [result]3&3,1d6,0,3&1d6[/result] |

Stefan bites back a swear. With Iron Head disabled he had no functional attacks against the ghosts. And that magnitude came in before Krieger was ready. . . . He has only one option left. Stinger bites the drifloon before retreating another five meters from the balloon and his bulky champion. Burning the last AP. Accuracy [result]19&19,1d20,0,19&1d20[/result] Dark Physical Damage [result]30&4:5,2d6,21,30&2d6+21[/result] |

The bite bursts the Drifloon's bubble (figuratively), and it goes down. KO! Morty recalls his bird, and sends out the weakened Haunter in his place. It looks like it wants some vengeance "Finish it." The ghost agrees, and immediately assaults Krieger with Shadow Ball! [result]7&7,1d20,0,7&1d20[/result] [result]52&2:12:8,3d12,30,52&3d12+30[/result] Golett follows up with Shadow Punch as insurance. [result]6&6,1d20,0,6&1d20[/result] [result]34&3:5:1,3d6,25,34&3d6+25[/result] Can't miss |

Stefan withdraws his fainted Pokemon. He had managed to knock out only one of the ghosts. So this is the taste of utter defeat. I hate it. "You win, Leader." Edited by Ursus the Grim, Feb 14 2014, 07:22 AM.

Morty recalls his Pokemon, and approaches his challenger. "Yeah, but at least you put up a good fight. Better than most people... that Pursuit trick was a good one." He reaches for something in his coat, and hands it off to Stefan. "At least take this for a good fight. It might help you out later, if you decide to challenge me again." What he handed off was a TM disc, number 65, marked 'Shadow Claw'. EXP

Stefan pauses. Was he seeing pity? A consolation prize? No, the gym leader seemed earnest. The TM would be undeniably useful against ghosts and psychics. He swallows his pride and accepts it from his hands. "Thank you for the experience and the opportunity. I'll be back some day, when Krieger and I have improved our weaknesses and those of our team." Stefan then heads back to the foyer, trying to hold his head high as he notices Jones. He waits for the archeologist to speak first, not having any news of his own to report. |
