Ah, Johto. After spending the last few days in the staunch caverns of the Pyramid, it's nice to get out of the tunnels for a breather. The ever-so-familiar sight of wild Sentret and Metapod basking in sunlight is a contrasting image from what's been featured lately on this journey, and even the sound of young Trainers battling is also somewhat refreshing.

Coming from Violet, there are two paths: one to the Ruins of Alph (south), and one that heads toward Goldenrod (west).

The Rhyhorn train keeps on a-rollin' up Route 37

(39)

While going up the standard path, up toward Ecruteak, Jason spots some movement among the grass, along with some trails of smoke. Looks like some Fire-types, but he can't quite see what kind; the grass covers them up pretty well. The children eye the grass along the road with curiosity.

Jason looks back at the kids occasionally during the trip and as they looked at the grass, he grinned a bit before tapping the Rhyhorn he was riding. "Whoa there. Let's see what's roaming in the grass, eh?" Jason then hops off the Rhyhorn and begins to look

The Rhyhorn stop in their tracks, and Jason goes to investigate.

Pulling away the grass, he discovers a small litter of Growlithe in the grass. They look almost newborn; much too young to put up a fight. The three pups scamper excitedly and run to Jason, barking and trying to climb up his legs.

Seeing the small dogs, Jason smiled and leaned down to scoop them up gently. "How good are you kids with pokemon?"

The boy ruffles through his pockets, and pulls out an empty Poke Ball. "I want to catch one! Can I?"

The pups don't seem to mind being picked up. One of them leaps up and licks Jason's face.

Jason looked to the boy and thought for a moment before looking at the Growlithe pups. "Do one of you guys want to be caught by the boy?"

Jason then tried to put one of the pups down for the boy to catch.

The pup is set down, and the boy comes off his Rhyhorn. He throws a Great Ball at the friendly pup!

The pup is caught by the boy! Nice technique on his part.

As the boy re-mounts the Rhyhorn, Jason hears something skulking through the brush, far from where they're standing. It's not a stealthy path that's being carved.

Jason looks down at the pups and smiles a bit before hearing the sound and turning towards it, watching.

The shaking suddenly stops.

Then comes some violent thrashing from the grass, and a loud, painful howl. The two other pups stand up in Jason's arms, looking for the source of the yelp.
