Ah, Johto. After spending the last few days in the staunch caverns of the Pyramid, it's nice to get out of the tunnels for a breather. The ever-so-familiar sight of wild Sentret and Metapod basking in sunlight is a contrasting image from what's been featured lately on this journey, and even the sound of young Trainers battling is also somewhat refreshing.

Coming from Violet, there are two paths: one to the Ruins of Alph (south), and one that heads toward Goldenrod (west).

Merchant freezes, and looks suspiciously at the pair. More likely than not fakes but...

"State your unit number and Paradox code."

He loads up the cannon, pointing it at the opposing Merchant.

The Merchant clone stands there silently.

"Four twenty thousand, A7B4KARPY12."

In some spontaneous moment of deja-vu, Merchant finds himself standing next to his Doduo in the bushes. A pair of Ditto are staring back at him from the road.

What? That wasn't the right type of unit, and paradox codes didn't even HAVE letters.

Suddenly disoriented, he finds himself facing a pair of pink blobs.
"Urk."

Whether it was a processing error or paradox, Merchant needed these ditto gone, before the triggered something like that again. He throws out a pokeball straight at the left ditto, causing Meowth to pop out. Doduo meanwhile rushes forward in anger, stomping around!

The Ditto are hit; they're not very sturdy. As they take damage, both Ditto transform into opposing Pokemon; one Doduo and one Meowth!

Ditto-Duo leaps into the air... and fear soars into Merchant's mechanical heart.

Meowth is not pleased at the fake cat, and hisses with far more fervor than normal. It slashes forward, attempting to draw out both pain and damage from the opposing cat. Merchant dives forward, throwing a pokeball and praying to god that Doduo chose one of his pokemon over him.

Ditto-Cat is hit, briefly returns to goop form... and is caught! (Level 15/Hardy/18 HP/1 Injury)

The Ditto-Duo bicycle-kicks the air as it feverishly decides which target to obliterate... but after seeing the human capture its friend for a life as a breeding stud, it knows just who to target.

Meowth jumps up, bodyblocking the blow, causing it to go flying into the bushes. Merchant loads the cannon, and fires it point blank at the Dit-duo.

Merchant picks up the two balls, pocketing them. Doduo looks pretty pumped, but Meowth just seems...pissed.

Oh well.

Recalling the pokemon, Merchant heads to the Center to see what the trades are and heal up.
