Theme Music is now mandatory

The torches lining the gravelly passageway abruptly stop, but the cavernous passageway is still seemingly lit. After a minute of shuffling, the source becomes obvious: bio-luminescent crystals are growing in the wall! They are small and round, but give off great amounts of light. The passage carries on for a while under this crystal light, but finally opens up into a bigger room.

The room in question is somewhat round and appears centralized, as two other passages split out the back wall and the right wall. The walls are not far from each other, ceiling is rather low, and there is no decor to be had. A few chests line the left wall, but most are open and obviously empty. A few barrels of gear, similar to the factory, sit next to the back passage's entrance. The back passage also is lined with wooden supports, to suggest the look of a mining operation.

"Well there's a number of naturally type-shifted mon that we've all run into, including Inferno and Neil, the Gastly and Lunatone you saw earlier. There's also some incredibly large rooms containing a jungle, a slagged down city, and a drowned city respectively. If you talk to Fir you should be able to get a dive suit from him. That's actually how I found the Pipe Works initially. Found a hotspring in the slag ruins with steps leading down into it. Got an insulated dive suit, and followed the water. It's also where I found Neil. Found a crack in the pipe I was following, busted it open, and came out into the pipe works. I should probably see where that pipe ended up leading some time..." he trails off for a moment. "Ah, also found some kind of dojo that was run by a fire-shifted Hariyama..." his lips twist into a scowl, "And then Merchant decided to go and capture it; which made all of its Makuhita disciples furious. I'm honestly a bit scared to try going back into the slag ruins now, even with three water pokemon, one of which is also Psychic on my side. Who knows how they'll react to humans now since their leader was captured like that..."

Stefan begins to explore the right path, keeping an eye out for pokemon and features to tell Jones about. Krieger is scurrying alongside him, poking about for scrap iron or tools that the trainer might be interested in. . . and anything that Stefan isn't interested in might be an edible snack.

The left path, traversed by Jones and Owen, is a long, thin path covered with identical glowing crystals and wooden support beams. If this place was a mine, this had to have been the main tunnel; it's pretty neat and cleverly dug out. Carefully making their way along, the trainers step over a few stones, but nothing too endangering has appeared. Eventually, the two come to a nice big fork in the road: a path continuing forward, and another splitting off to the left. Kindle sniffs around the left fork, noting the earthy scent coming from that direction.

The right path is a somewhat messy affair, with barely any support beams laid out. It seems this tunnel was carved in haste, as some sand falls from the rocky ceiling, and the light is barely enough to see five feet in front of Stefan. Nonetheless, Stefan spots something at the edge of the darkness, not too far into the cave. It's tiny, a very tiny Pokemon, but it's hard to make out exactly what it is.

Stefan hesitates. There could be trouble in such an unstable environment. Krieger steps in front of him as he ekes closer, planning on stopping when he figures out what it is.

"Please don't be a volatile geodude," he whispers to himself. Or a voltorb, or koffing. . .

Upon closer inspection, it appears the shadows blend with darkness... but Stefan makes out the elongated shape of a Sandile at the edge of the light! It spots him, and runs deeper into the tunnel.

Relieved and energized, Stefan recalls Krieger and gives chase, switching on his flashlight as the shadows grow deep. Mindful of the quarry's type, he considers drawing the bug out once he gets close.

Jones notes that the Vulpix seems to be sniffing at one of the tunnels over the other. "Left hand rule again!" He scratches an arrow pointing to the left in the divide between the two tunnels, and will lead Owen onwards, once more keeping an ear and an eye out.

Owen continued to follow, his cheer undiminished. "My, that all sounds very exciting! Who knows, perhaps once those Makuhita cool down a bit they'll come to respect the strength of those who bested their teacher. A new leader will rise from their ranks soon enough. Maybe it was about time for a change in regime! It could do them some good!" As he spoke, his curious eyes continued to take in their surroundings. Meanwhile, Kindle remained interested in the earthy scent he kept picking up.

(Sandile's Athletics: 7)

Krieger and the Sandile are matched roughly in speed, and the chase carries on for a while. Eventually, the tunnel opens up into a mid-sized chamber. The end of the room has a large divot (5x5) against the back wall, suggesting an impromptu excavation had happened here. There's a little more light, enough to illuminate the chamber, and the Sandile leaps down into the divot as Stefan and Krieger run into the room.

Jones's training kicks in, and he becomes more machine than man, traversing the chamber like nobody's business while Owen tags carefully along. Along the way, he scoops up a green gem... a Grass Gem! Kindle runs alongside Jones as he goes, getting right in between him and Owen, and the scent gets stronger the further down the path they go. Eventually the room opens up into another chamber... with a sudden steep incline! (Athletics)

Jones pockets the gem, even as he swings out with the pick in order to arrest his forward momentum. "Watch your step!"
